Landing on planets.
The station in the development gallery bears a strong, though by no means identical, resemblance to VO.
I happened to stumble into a post by Louis on the forums there. He's making models there now.
I may need to leave VO when this comes out. Just FYI. Sorry guys.
I saw a few of their videos before, but wow they have a lot more now. Just do a quick youtube search.

Hilarious, there's even posts about how there will be no walking on planets upon release - but maybe later. There's discussion of how when you die, perhaps you escape in a pod. Suggestions to add boarding. If you're a carebear and don't want to be shot at, stay in "corespace". The similarities are everywhere.
...except that you can't even play it yet. It looks like they started coding in 2006.

We have VO to tide us over until one of the two development teams gets it right.

Two years to wait it seems. I tried the combat model, compared to VO it isn't very good. The detail, though, is fantastic. Drawback to that: high computer requirements.
In two years they won't seem so high.
I tried it, turned off the automatic compensator, and was thrilled by the full newtonian physics. Of course, it is a pre-alpha prototype that won't even be in the full game (not to mention, they dropped it in 2007 to keep working on the main game)... so the sound effects and laser animations were pretty terrible.
It bugged me, though, that they didn't at least add a custom key binding feature. They used the same movement keys that vendetta uses (Q, W, E, R, A, S, D, and F) but with some fucked up scrambled setting that I couldn't change. W/A/S/D were up/left/down/right respectively while R and F were being used for forward/back thrusters. I never got used to that as the Vendetta default key bindings have become so second nature to me (and W/S are always forward/back... there's a rule). However, I'm positive that that would not be a problem in the full game :P
tl;dr full newtonian physics = awesome, and pre-alpha combat is very pre-alpha... but shows some potential for finally making a polished full newtonian physics space sim.

I might have to leave VO for infinity two. However bt the time infinity comes out I reckon VO will mature into a game unrecognizable to its current state. And yes, I'm keeping in mind that not much changed in the last 2 years (as long as I've been here)
