No, it is a Thranta class corvette:) Very similar indeed

EDIT oh nvm its from the old republic

It's really just the whacky perspective that provides the likeness, in reality it doesn't look much like a revenant at all.

'at all' is perhaps too strong a term...
Jun 07, 2010 Snax_28 link
Yeah well there's likely an army of Revenant-style ships available for comparison if you want to judge the whole canon against that silhouette.

No need to get unfriendly... there are still significant similarities, such as the edge-on nose, the very clear separation of engine and other compartments, the same longish shape.

So, saying it does not look much like a Revenant *at all* is, in my opinion, too strong a term.

Sorry, wasn't meant as unfriendly. Problem with forums I guess. Was just trying to point out that that hammerhead look has been done in sci-fi from the beginning. There are most certainly plenty of similarities when looked at it on a model vs model level.

Blame my lack of friendly punctuation on lack of sleep (31 and thinking I can still get away with 24hr+ sleepless binges)...

uh star wars came out in the 70s i think the revenant would look like a thranta not the other way around. stupid fanbois

SW may have been conceived in the 70ies, but the name 'Thranta' and indeed the Thranta frigate design do not really surface before 2007.

Chronological correctness. JFGI

whats this then tosh?

oh yeah the rebellion era blockade runner corvette which is directly from the thranta and is in the opening scene of a new hope

This is why you never get laid, pey.
Jun 07, 2010 toshiro link
Do you mean this CR90 Corellian corvette? No mention of Thranta, except for a unique CR90's name.

JFGI and don't take the first pic that you find. Now, if you'd said that it resembled the blockade runner corvette... you might have a point. Only the Rev and CR90 designs are less similar than the Rev and Thranta frig.

Well actually, I was just saying that the way the artist drew it and the angle he used made it look exactly like a Revenant... by itself, it doesn't scream Revenant but it has it resemblances in design concepts.

Anyways, I think peytros is right, here... by a hair... the first SW ship with the vertical hammerhead-type bridge design with the separated engines was the Hammerhead-class cruiser which first appeared in KotOR (if any of you remember the last cut scene with the huge space battle at the Starforge) in early 2003 (well before the Revenant, I think).

And if you wanna talk about SW ships that look like VO ships by themselves, without silly artists and picture angles, might I bring up the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate which looks like a Constellation with a giant bite out of it? (or the other way around, of course)

Point taken. The Hammerhead bears more resemblance to the Revenant than the Thranta, even. But it's interesting that there are somewhat consistent designs within Star Wars (TIE fighters and company, as another example).
Jun 08, 2010 ShankTank link
I'd say the Thranta still looks more like the Revenant than the Hammerhead (the bridge is more rounded, the engine is separated from the rest of the ship as another segment, it's got the little nubs on the side that look like eyes on a dumb fish, and let us not forget my first link where the Thranta was so seamlessly misinterpreted by the artist as a Revenant).

And yeah, you're right about the consistency in Star Wars ship designs. It seems like every ship can be traced to something in the new hope (I bet the Hammerhead was based on the CR90, for example). And God knows how many half-assed TIE fighter and Star Destroyer designs there are.
Jun 08, 2010 peytros link
interestingly enough the nebulon B frigate is the same length as the connie on paper but the connie appears much smaller in game.

also while the tie fighter thing has gotten way out of control i like how you can trace the ships lineage by the design. its like looking at a porsche or a corvette from today and looking at one from the 60s and seeing the familiar lines.

You are all weirdos. Hmmmph.

Yep. And you are one, too, by virtue of posting in this thread.

Say hello to your fellow weirdos!
