Cool. Is this a ship model for VO?
Jun 02, 2010 Raven101 link
uuhh never really thought of that....but if someone wants to use it for somethung contact me (nils.svenningsen@gmail.com).

And im still trying to make a UV texture for it so it can get some ingame colors (i import my models to the halo demo to see how they look ingame)

Awesome. Call the devs.

Mmmm, flare-magnet.

lecter, FYI that thing started out as a "flare"

It... doesn't look like anything. Let me guess. You started with a cube and just kept adding triangles at random until you ended up with this?
Jun 02, 2010 Professor Chaos link
Looks better than ladron says... I think he can't envision anything more than a cube, so beyond a cube this looks random to him.

Beyond that, I think it looks very nice... as an atmospheric craft. If there's no atmospheric flight intended for this ship, lose the wings.

Yeah, you could probably cut the wings (if not, keep them as little stubs - centurion style).

I agree with Dr. Lecter and ShankTank, the wings could use some clipping (the model wouldn't hold up in atmospherical conditions anyway). Perhaps move the upper pair to a vertical position on the ridges of the upper engine pods, the lower to a horizontal position on the lateral ridges, and add a third pair to the lower pods.

Slimming the rear part of the ship a bit wouldn't hurt either, in my opinion.

I like the visible weapon pods and the segmented canopy. Perhaps add a visible, third weapons port, designed for large weaponry.

I also like the 'mandibles' that encase the cockpit. This ship has the look of a heavily armored torpedo bomber to me, akin to the Thunderbolt from the Wing Commander series. That does not mean that I think you plagiarized its design.

well im working on an upgrade (with all your advice taken into thought) i removed the wings, nad im working on new ones, as for a large weapons port, that has already been added (did so after i posted the picture. Though im not really fo sliming the rear down, its supposed to have one heck of a powerful engine, and usually those aint small.

Yeah, I actually like the huge engine, my only criticism is that there should probably be more of a transition to it from the cockpit (right now the cockpit just sort of randomly protrudes from the engine as though someone took two entirely separate models and stuck them in each other - hence making the angled back view a lot cooler than the front view of the ship). I also like how the cockpit is (ship-relative) up/down symmetrical... nice touch that isn't seen a lot in space ship design (though should be seen a lot more).

Well, from an utilitarian point of view, it matters little how the LSM is attached to the propulsion module, as long as the connecting elements are designed to withstand the strain that is to be expected.

Of course, from an aesthetic point of view, the transition is debatable. Personally, I do not mind sharp contrasts.

And if the humongous propulsion module was a deliberate decision, I understand that and respect it, of course - you're the designer.

Well i dont think this ship will have any wings (only the littel front ones), i have fixed a transition between the enginge and cockpit module, and i need some advice on the large cannon, cause im going full out and just modeling it, but asthere are so many diffrent types of heavy weapons im goingto try and incorperate a gauss cannon into a gatling turret and make a seperate missile pod, and then i guess itll be ut to you to choose one or suggest how to make one.
Jun 03, 2010 Raven101 link
Okay ive now done some more work, which heavy weaponsconfiguration should i keep? or should there be 3 versions of the ship? (mk1(no heavy, but fast), mk2(one heavy and moderate speed), mk3(2 heavies and a bit bulky and not too fast))

Any more helpful ideas? cause i like what you guys have suggested so far! =D

One or two large ports seems the most original.

You might want to make your port models a little more ambiguous, the small ports look like simple energy weapons and the large ports look like gatling turrets.

Other than that, it looks like a squid... and it's awesome lol.
Jun 03, 2010 Raven101 link
well acually i tried to make the gatling a bit multi purpose, theres a gause cannon sticking out the middle, (ill post some closeups next time i update.
Jun 03, 2010 peytros link
what program are you using for this?
Jun 03, 2010 Raven101 link
*peytros
Im using wings 3D (free, might not be the pros choice, but i understand it so im stayin with it, though im planning on moving to blender soon)

*Update
Okay here are some closeups,(im guessing you might want me to fix/shrink/modify the blasters?). Also a front view of the heavy version, just to see if you agree with the configuration of the guns.

damn you work really fast

from the head on view i think you need more of a tapper to the engines cause IMO right now i don't think it flows very well from cockpit to engine.
