Great for doing 3D CAD, they are. A bit fiddly to get used to, but a great help once you do.

It'd be neat for ship steering, yes. You could control all the movement axes with one hand.

I've played with one of these once a few months ago, and it was funny - the first thought that popped into my head was "Wow, this would make a great VO controller."

Then I saw how much they cost... :(
