Kudos to the Devs
New news from JGE: http://us.jumpgateevolution.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2506
TL;DR version: They have no features planned for guilds, beyond chat channel and guild tag/name. VO has more features than JGE... and yes, I am just receiving word that... it is indeed snowing in Hell.

Indeed, moldy. Indeed.
Luckily, the flying pigs are eating it before it hits the ground.
Considering that they have the option for guilds to actually sign up for beta, I would assume they have plans for guilds. And while it's admirable the framework the devs have put in place for guilds over the last few years, they themselves launched with nothing else than a list, tags, a communication channel, and a basic form of management (council/lts/etc). In fact, it was like that for quite a few years after the initial launch.
Considering this game (JGE) hasn't even gone beta, I would be more than a little hesitant to be trumpeting the fact that VO has more features.

Their budget is far larger than Guild's, they have four to five times as many people, they have one long running game of experience behind them and their leader seems to have no clear vision for said game except "Attract in as many paying people as possible, ie causal gamers".
There is a comparison.

Ok, so I just read the post you linked to in the context of the actual conversation.
Essentially what NDHerman2 was stating was that guilds, upon launch, will not have any specific effect on the outcomes of the game, any more than a group of people who might choose to utilize organizational tools that reside outside of the game would (different than VO... how?).
How you managed to deduce this...
They have no features planned for guilds, beyond chat channel and guild tag/name.
...from that conversation is a bit beyond me (did you read the actual post?).
"Attract in as many paying people as possible, ie causal gamers"
Got a link for that quote?

Yes, there is... just not the one you're making.

Why yes, Gavan! It's called reading. I read alot. In fact, I read the JGE forums everyday! And I have been for over a year now. I could provide specific quotes and links, but frankly this isn't a persuasive argument and I could care less if anyone else agrees.
My only point was kudos to the Devs for handling PR *FAR* better than NetDevil ever has, and for sticking to their Elite-based roots rather than dumbing down the game.
Man, you guys really do need something to do if even a congrats is cause for argument. Seriously.

Trollz will be trollz
I'm not actually trolling. I'm taking issue with a vague and unsubstantiated argument. I really don't have any problem with giving the devs props, but why do so using weak comparisons? The PR thing isn't even a good one. I could find you a post or two by Inc where he essentially told the poster to go to hell. Most of these were in response to people criticizing or questioning Guild's vision.
If you're going to take issue with people critiquing your points, you really shouldn't be posting them in the first place.
Other than that, yes, props to the devs for not only building a relatively epic MMO with only a four person team, but sustaining it over a length of time that has seen much larger games come and go (although it could be argued that larger budgets often come with larger strings attached in regards to financial performance).
I still don't think it's safe to compare the two titles though, given the fact that JGE hasn't even gone beta. It may very well suck, burn, and fail. Or it might blow VO clear out of the water. Time will tell.
