I wonder how many times more expensive than a RPG one of those is.

Is that an acceptable unit, Lecter? And how expensive IS an RPG, generally speaking? I mean, it's not like you can just buy them at the next Wal-Mart along with milk, bacon and all that jazz, is it? Well, at least around here, that's not the case. And I'd be surprised to find that to be the case in NY...

Yay rambling.

I think Lecter means that, a $500 RPG bought on the black market in the USA (probably only $50 in places like Afghanistan) could stop your new, shiny, pretty armored tractor dead in its tracks. Not to mention an old TOW missile, those would be doubly effective.

However, the Armored Tractor looks pretty kickass.

Why would you worry about that? They're illegal, aren't they? So you don't have to worry about them.

"Bullet resistant materials"

If they REALLY wanted to stop low-end military weapons in their tracks...

Really, I think a .50 BMG through the front grill and into the engine block would probably be sufficient to put down the shiny, pretty armored tractor.

The Grizzly, on the other hand...

I'm not sure if an RPG would be often employed, since, as Lecter put it, there's no need for such drastic measures as an anti-tank weaponry, which have other consequences besides stopping the truck.

That said, what is the actual point of having an armored semi? Are they hoping to get a defense contract? Phallic supplement? Or are there actually so many shootouts around trucks that they would warrant such an expensive add-on?

They probably see a bit of use in Iraq-theater convoys. Not sure what the hell you ship domestically that requires one, though. Cash, metals, gems, etc. are all shipped in smaller armored cars. Maybe moving nukes?

maybe their worried about things in this country falling apart to a level that people might say 'hrmm, there's a whole semi load of stuff, some of it might be of use to me, the rest maybe i can barter or atleast burn for heat'. i agree with lecter, a 50bmg would proabably stop it fairly fast, though remember, doc, those aren't usually considered "small arms" these days. And really, most any round through the radiator and it aint going all that far.

their ≠ they're

And yeah, I don't see that it's all that useful domestically. The only reason I can think of would be to make your truck cooler looking, and increase your carbon footprint. Those are good enough reasons to me!

50bmg ... those aren't usually considered "small arms" these days.

Only in CA/NJ/NY, look. Back home I can walk into any gun store with a few grand and walk out with one a background check later. Amusingly, there's now a new .50 BMG style round, just smaller than .50", designed especially for sale in CA. Same ballistics, just a slightly smaller caliber. Liberals are apparently not very clear on how guns work.

Plus, CA cops can't get service on their existing .50 BMG rifles because Barrett told them to go fuck off until the civilian market was re-opened ;)

Hell yea! That's what I'm talkin about.

If it werent for the whole "where can I park?" BS, I'd use one of those as a "family driver"!

Who's compensating? I just like the fact that if some jackass in a .. sorry doc.. Jag decides he wants to cut in front of me, I don't need to worry about brakes..
