I think the cartoonist thought that everyone already knew the situation. Avoid getting your news from cartoons. This rules out some television networks.

I knew about the black Harvard proffesor being arrested for some bs reason, but didnt know about Obama inviting them for some beers (I dont usually care to know about such trivial news).

Also, the guy in the comic strip is white, might as well have been Biden.

Shadoen, Randall Munroe does not shade his stick figures to represent skin tones. It's what makes them so likeable, actually.
