Probably the most distant object ever visible to the naked eye, 7.9 billion light years away and only 40 seconds in duration, detected hours after the death of Arthur C. Clarke.

Fox news reported this story on Friday, quoting Jonathan Grindlay calling it "the birth pangs of a black hole." What do you make of this?

Coincidence, as Mr. Clark himself would have agreed. The thing blew 7.5B years ago.
