I remember I had a car that the blinker fluid got old and faded, and the lights lost the color. To make matters worse, the belts got a bit loose, too, so the blinkers blinked really slowly and would sometimes stick on while the belt slipped and wouldn't flip the blinker toggles.
Scary thing is you could probably take motor oil, re bottle it as blinker fluid, and find people who'd really pour it in the plastic turn signal housing.
I've heard of people using WD-40 to stop a serpentine belt from squeeking, boy does that make a mess.

yep when i got my truck i had to take off every pully and scrub it with acitone to get the gummed up belt off.
