DID IT TAKE OFF??

Mythbusted, and still people can't stop arguing over it.

I'll be the first to admit that the mythbusters are morons, but that doesn't mean they don't occasionally get lucky and arrive at the right conclusion. If George Bush said 1+1=2, it wouldn't make it false.

THERE IS NO HOPE FOR HUMANKIND.

Cunjo likes to bring out the /b/tard within himself in the worse way possible.

You do realize the hypocrisy, right?

Yes, but I don't copypasta right from /b/.

I appreciate their attempts to bring critical thinking to the masses.

This one time, I dropped a knife on my foot, but it fell on its side, and I didn't get hurt at all. This proves once and for all that dropping knives on your feet is perfectly safe!

I think you need to try bigger, sharper knives. And anvils.

Whistler said it. Sometimes they're right on, but usually I don't trust their results; but the value is that they bring something close to the scientific method to people who aren't used to thinking that way.

Eh... I'd be surprised if entertainment didn't take precedence over accuracy in that show (like most television). With how frequently they change camera shots, who can say how scientific their methods are?

Well, they at least tackle interesting ideas and myths. They aren't scientists, though. At least not Jamie and Adam. They're just special effects guys, so they know some stuff about making stuff happen and they have the means to do this. They're also extreme nerds, as are the rest of the guys (not that that's a bad thing), so they have passion for what they're doing, which goes a long way for entertainment. However, they're a bit impatient and tend to jump to conclusions. Maybe it's the show format, maybe it's budget, maybe it's the fault of the cast, who knows.

I remember a particular one testing whether a hurricane could put a piece of straw through a tree. They put together a cannon to shoot straw, and it wouldn't go through a tree so they busted the myth. The problem was, the cannon wasn't small enough to fire a single straw, it shot bundles. So if one was going to puncture the tree, it was being interfered with by other pieces of straw. It's a consistent problem on the show, and if they had better methods, I think their ratings would be even higher.

This airplane episode, I think, was one of their better ones as far as methods go. My favorite part of most episodes is that if it's a busted myth, they go all out to see under what circumstances the myth would be confirmed.

They what? haha...

I had to laugh... because I've personally shot several straws into wooden planks and a treestump using nothing but a .22 caliber pneumatic.

So they went through all the trouble of using a freakin cannon, and never thought of the obvious?

Yea, not scientists, and not engineers... entertainers.

But that doesn't mean they can't occasionally get lucky.

"Yea, not scientists, and not engineers... entertainers."

They could hire professionals from either one of those branches. But yeah, critical thinking is good.
