getting shared itunes music into my library
so i cant find any programs out there that will do this in itunes 7. it seems apple closed some sort of loophole or something that allowed this to happen. all the apps i've looked at say, oh we're working on it. are there any where they've finished working on it and it works?
did you try ourTunes? That worked for me last year, but after a few minutes of searching I discovered nobody listened to anything I liked.
i didnt try it, but it says it doesnt work with itunes 7
why dont you put all them files that are on that comp you want the music from in a shared folder errr something
The general use case for this was pulling music from other people's shared libraries, for example on a campus network. Acted as a nice CYA layer when the Music Police come a-knockin, since any infringement is solely on the head of the person who is pulling the music. There is no way to know who was just listening and who was copying files, and the ability to share (without copying) over the local network is built right in to the licensing terms (in the case of iTunes Store purchases).
Debate the politics of it all you want, it's copyright infringement. Apple had an obligation to at least attempt to prevent ourTunes from working.
Lots of campus IT departments are being more proactive about these things now, watching for open file shares and well-known P2P apps, and reporting, blocking or issuing stern-talking-tos to offending parties.

"and reporting, blocking or issuing stern-talking-tos to offending parties."
Or in the case of some campuses, millions of dollars in fines each year distributed among the offending parties of the collective student body.
I guess there's being anal about it, and then there's being anal about it....

greengeek: ourTunes didn't strip the DRM from the songs -- if you grabbed something that had been purchased from the iTunes store, you still had to authorize it with the original purchaser's account or buy it yourself before you could listen to it.
