hey guys i just installed my shiny new 9550 and the drivers but when i try to run any game in windowed mode it crashes the game and i can only play games with openGL whenever i turn on DX9 in vo it bugs

i cant start unreal tournament 2004 i get a general protection error and i cant switch windows while im running vo (i could do this easily before by pressing Alt+Tab or Windoze key) i would love some help thanks in advance :)

I've heard that the ATI Radeon 9550 is an overclocked 9200, and that heat is a major factor. You might try popping open the case and directing a fan in there to either confirm or eliminate that cause.

Another (more likely) suggestion I've seen is to make sure your drivers for your motherboard's chipset are the latest.

actually it runs at room temp the dude i got it from tells me its an under clocked 9600 pro gpu and i can touch the card heat sink and it not even warm

I'm seeing different information involving cards manufactured at different times, but if the heat sink is cool then the point is moot.

There's also some issue people have with the Catalyst drivers.

Uninstall the catalyst drivers that you have, remove/uninstall card from
device manager.
Reboot your system.
Try using different set of drivers instead of Catalyst, like Omega drivers.
