Black Prophecy MMO
It looks rather similar to another game we know, and has a similar story. I'll bet they have more than 4 developers.
Let's see how this turns out. They don't mention anything besides combat and pretteh pikshers.
What a craptastic website.
Good new is, all the annoying bastards that keep clamoring for bigger better capship battles and guild owned stations will finally go play a game that seems to be obsessed with, uh, bigger and better capship battles and guild-owned stations. Mmm.

Do they have a clan bank system?
Reakktor has around 50 people who've been working on Black Prophecy for seven months. The MMO features both PvE and PvP play and supports up to 300 folks in one game. It is currently in development for PC, but Reakktor is looking for funding to bring the title to the Xbox 360, as well. Our demo today was played on a PC with a 360 controller.
It's quite early in development though.

In other news:
Reykjavík, Iceland, Toronto, Canada – September 11, 2007 – CCP Games, one of the world’s largest independent game developers, today announced a partnership with TransGaming Inc. (TSX-V: TNG) , a leading developer of software portability products for the electronic entertainment industry. The strategic relationship will enable CCP to deliver its popular massively multiplayer online game (MMOG), EVE Online, with Linux and Macintosh platforms later this year.
Although that one, as we all know, has no PvP combat. It's more like a giant chess game. With lasers.
In effect, there would be two competitors for the genre: VO and BP. BP is far from shipping and platform support is vague ("PC").
So VO still has a few months of leeway to align their flutes.

EVE = WoW in Space
This BP seems to be going for the massive multiplayer online game look but with some twist like a RTS/FPS map but 300 people can join the fun. And from the looks of it, all that honey will attract the flies that are looking for something that looks "cooler".

you mean VO IS BETTER?
Well, if twitch-based space PvP is what you're after, VO's you're only solution. It's it's pretty damn good if you dont have latency issues (or couldn't care less).
It just so happens I care a lot about 2/3 of my shots not registering.
With all the recent server-side tweaks and performance-related enhancements in the last few weeks, I'll probably have to register for a month to try it out again and see if this has come along enough for me not to make it a frustration exercise.
I dont think I would ever like EVE but I do admit being curious, still.
Edit:
I should point out, as well, that I continue to advocate VO on some forums and friends abroad. If it works for them, there's no reason they shouldn't play. It's not like I'm at war with VO or anything.

From what I see, their whole selling point is "mmo that looks pretty". Also, only 300 people battling at once? What kind of craptastic stuff is that?
It's common on MMOs to limit the number of people in "a game". This is sort of like a virtualized universe where a max number of players interact at once.
It's still more than 6 times the VO average.
*If* they reach that number of people.

How do I put this...
Black Prophecy is being developed by 10tacle studios. 10tacle studios has several games on all the major platforms past and present. They have media coverage. They have advertising budgets. They have the ability to frankly buy the eyes and ears of a much larger audience than has likely ever heard of VO.
Even if this project fails, I bet you dollars to donuts it's going to attract a hell of a lot more people than VO is now, deserved or not.

Probably all true, though VO has made no attempt to advertise so far.
Upper case: I have seen VO handle a 250-man battle flawlessly already. 300 people seems pretty low to me at this point. I understand there are some MMO's that have hard limits on players in a certain area at once.
I dont think that limit is because of server limits. It's probably just an arbitrary upper limit they set for the sake of game mechanics.
Most I've seen on VO was somewhere within 100-120. Twice (including this summer's EVE outburst).
I hope Guild Software will have budget for a renewed server farm by the time it reaches 300 average.

1.1.0/Release had around 200.
