Do we HAVE to advertise for competing products on this forum? Really now...

BTW: Have you noticed that their storyline is EXACTLY the same as Vendetta's? Or that some of their ships look similar... Or that gameplay is the stratagy equivalent to our FPS... This bodes badly for Guild...

EDIT: Aha! Read this:
"4.4 Can more than one player be on the same ship?

No."

We've got them now!

Having been part of the Eve test, I can tell you:

The storyline is not all that similar to Vendetta's storyline other than that there are different races in space and they have spaceships. Vendetta barely even HAS a storyline.

The ships and art in general are VERY different. They don't look much alike in the screenies and they certainly aren't similar looking in play.

Gameplay is different in that Vendetta combat is much more dynamic and exciting. Of course there's much more to Eve than combat, where as Vendetta has little else yet.

Eve isn't twitch based. Vendetta is.

Vendetta is tri-platform. Not for Mac, not for me.

Well, 1/3 of us are windows users (weirdos), so we ARE looking at potential customer loss for Guildsoftware.

About the storyline, here's what the EVE one is (my interpretation):

Humanity found a wormhole out of the solar system. It led to the far-off planet EVE. Sadly, the hole collapsed behind them and they haven't been home since.

The Vendetta one (also my interpretation):

In 2310, humanity found a wormhole away from Sol near Saturn. Sadly, it collapsed behind them and they haven't been home since.

Hmmm.....

Hey Rogue, do you have any clue HOW MANY space games are based on that theme????

HELL, STARCRAFT is based on that theme!!!!
Jun 20, 2003 ctishman link
Starcraft was based on a "lost colonization fleet" theme, not a wormhole at all.

I might try out this game once it comes out. I like that fact that it's not twich based and is stat based, annnd guess who's a FFT whore? ME ME! I like twicth based games, but not Vendetta that much, I don't like having to wait for my ship to catch up with my mouse, it's really annoying. But you you didn't have to wait for your ship, it would be like those assholes in CS that turn of flymode because they can't play the game normally. Really I only play Vendetta for the community and to waste time uptil that UT port for OSX comes out and I can get back on TO, I miss my Sigia/AK combo, I especially miss my PH M82, and my PSG-1. *nostalgia*

Reasons why I pick the Sigia/AK combo. AK's are easy to use and make great short range sniper rifles that rapes just about anything. Sigia, well the sigia is a automatic shotgun, how can you NOT go wrong?

Reasons why I pick the two slowest weapons in the game. I'm a better sniper then all of you.

"...to waste time uptil that UT port for OSX..."

So tell me again, why are you waiting if I was jut playing my carbonized version of UT yesterday? Or do you want an "official" port?
Jun 21, 2003 Rabid Panda link
That carbon "port" is just crap, compare it to when you run UT in Classic and you'll see what I mean. Epic knows that and now that they have finished up UT2k3, they are going to start tweaking the Carbon version of UT a lot so that it works right. I've seen UT run fline on some really crappy systems and the carbon version just wants way to much. Oh well, I'm getting a PC soon anyways, so it doens't matter. Please don't assume things, like me leaving the Mac community. I'm a gamer. Period. I can't play the games that I want to on the Mac, I need a PC so that I can get back into gaming and get on with my life.
Jun 21, 2003 electric27 link
I've never seen UT run stable in OS9. My last comp. was a Bondi Rev. B iMac that barely ran the damned thing. Now I have a DP G4. Ran the Carbonized version without a hitch. Tried running the origional in classic and it froze up my system.
Jun 22, 2003 Rabid Panda link
heh, G4 400 here, runs OS9 (not classic) like a charm, and OS X bogs down like none other. I'm sorry I don't have a good enough computer and endless amouts of money like you do =^P
Jun 22, 2003 Pyro link
Uhhh... OS X runs better than OS 9 on my 800 MHz iBook... How much ram do you have?
Jun 22, 2003 Rabid Panda link
384 mb ram, GF2 MX 400 64mb running at 800x600 on TO
Jun 22, 2003 Pyro link
Odd... You have as much ram as I do, along with a better graphics card. It ought to run fine for you... Have you tried rebooting? :P Actually, a fresh reinstall may do you good. I borked OS X somehow, and after I reinstalled it it seemed a heck of a lot zippier...

After participating in Eve's beta test and having one whopping friend that plays it I can tell you this:

Eve is not a space combat game.

It's a mining simulator first (for at least your first 4 months) and a PvP exploitation platform second (as in almost no head-to-head PvP occurs... usually just jump gate and lag exploits).

I'd stay away from Eve for several more months. Their release was 4-6 months too early and therefore very rough. Even after it stabilizes and gets polished I, as in myself, would not get involved with it unless some kind of an expansion takes place, like better avatars or populated planets (they advertise something like "Over 5,000 worlds!" and while it's true there are a ton of them they are all randomized between 5 different color tones and every single one of them has a copy of every other system of a single planet, station and asteroid belt in it - rofl - if you've been to 10 Eve worlds you've been to them all).
