Help Professor Chaos replace parts on his Mac
Hey guys. I bought my iBook in early 2004, and my battery and cord are going out (seems I beat the average by being very nice to my charger). Since the battery and charger from Apple suck balls and are expensive, I was wondering what anyone has to say about this battery and this or this charger. Any input on how good these products are would be appreciated. My computer is a 2004 14-inch G4 iBook. Thanks.
First: See if you can get your battery replaced by Apple, that slip-up with the inflammable batteries, if you have not done so yet.
Otherwise, the battery seems to be an exact replacement...
Can't really say anything about the power adapters, except that the first one explicitly states a 1-year warranty...

Sorry Chaos, I got no powerbook parts
That's ok, LeberMac. How about hooking a guy up with a free old G5?
Toshiro, sadly my iBook, while it was sold at the right time, is a 14-inch G4, not a 12-inch. My laptop is too cool for the program, apparently! It says on that site: "Note: If your battery serial number does not match any of the ranges listed above, you do not have to exchange your battery. Thank you for your cooperation with this exchange program." Good thing I'm not forced to get a free new battery, 'cause that would totally suck!
My only concern with the battery is that it's not an original battery, and I want to make sure the important specs (whatever they are, I'm not an expert on batteries) match, so I don't have any unwanted side-effects like my computer melting or something.
Thanks for the input, if anyone else knows anything, let me know.

Since the original batteries from Apple do not come with overly much information to be found out about them, I'd say that for all intents and puproses, the batteries are virtually identical. Did you compare the battery's specs with the ones obtainable by googling the original one? That would be the first step in my book.
Try replacing your PRAM battery first before you do the "normal" powerbook battery replacement.
[ignorance]What is a PRAM battery?[/ignorance]
I tremble in fear, and click on the link.... thanks, I'll read that.
Toshiro, I'm still not sure what the PRAM is, but is this what you mean? I don't think I have a RAM disk set up, and I can deal with my time zone settings being reset, but will I suffer adverse effects if I reset my PMU? I don't think it'll fix my problem, but maybe it will help.
No, that is how to reset it (thanks! I didn't know about this button...).
But I think Leebs was joking (apart from the fact that he shouldn't be using the -Mac suffix anymore...). If not, I'll be the first to want to know hoe this would work.
