the only thing i didnt like about fs2 is that its so linear. if theyd let you fly around freely as in the classic elite, then that game would have been magnificent.
The controls are kind of weird when you're used to VO. I ended up using my joystick seriously for the first time since I bought it. I still suck at it :/
lol =D
Fun game... posted about it a while ago here: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/8/12186#148944 and the following few posts..

I got it, pretty fun. Finished the first campaign...are there any more campaigns for download?
There's a lot of them. There's even a Freespace 1 conversion for FS2SCP. Another campaign I would recommend is Derelict, although I haven't been able to tweak the settings to get the missions to work quite right - but that might change, since they just came out with a new build of the game as well as some updated .vp files.
But, be prepared to do a bit of reading, research, and tweaking if you want to add some extra campaigns to the game.

Okay this may sound dumb but... Is FreeSpace free? >_> *ducks from tomatoes*
Good to see Mac users get PC games... a bunch of years after we PC users played them and moved on.
CHOICE: Why Wintels PWN Macs in the real world.

Pffftt, stupid windows....
Moldyman: Yes. It's completely free. The source code was even released.

I'm downloading it at the moment, it says its 1.43 GB. Is that actually how large it is? Or does it have a load of other crap that comes with it?
It's pretty large--the game has movies/cutscenes in it as well as lots of sound files.
its worth it Dawg :)
And afterwards when you finsh the campain...there are others...but i forgot the URL :p

For any fans of Battlestar Galactica ... and/or Freespace, there's quite a mod coming out in the future:

thanks Kanaka, I'm still debating about the 9 hour download, seeing how there are people in this building using the internet for much more important endevours, and wouldn't be impressed at a slow internet connection for a day. :(
But whoa, that BSG mod certainly is tempting.

Yes, it's always good to see Macs get PC games.. because.. at least we GET them.. I have yet to see it go the other way.
I am always hearing this guy or the other can run Parallels on his Intel mac and run windows stuff..
But nobody can run -any- mac stuff on the supposed 'most compatible' system.
If it's so compatible, why cant it run anything except windows stuff ?
OS/2 Warp kicked win95's ass all over the place, and if IBM had bothered to market it properly, the PC market would be vastly different now.
<- HUGE OS/2 Warp fan, and it was an awesome OS. Was the only OS, other than DOS itself, at the time, that I could run any kind of DOS games, plus any win3.1 games
