Feb 22, 2006 LeberMac link
As income tax time approaches, did you ever notice: When you put the two words "The" and "IRS" together it spells "THEIRS"?

ive got an idea.

cut the military budget down to the proprtional size it is with every other non-dictatorship country on the planet. then you wont have to pay so much taxes.

Anazi.... We have half the worlds military, AT about a 260 billion dollar a year budget.

So in ecense... the US has the manpower literally hold its own against every country on the planet.

Hrm. Well, here's hoping we never have to use it to make the world safe for democracy.

Democracy is so.. overrated..
Feb 24, 2006 toshiro link
Yeah. Too bad it's the only thing that really worked out in the long run, so far.

Well, the odd little system the british have going on seems to work too. Democracy + a family you get to pick on! It's that last bit that seems to keep them entertained...

Yes, for one reason or another people seem to like the royal family , also where I come from. I personally think it is a waste of a lot of money..

avirulence, the only problem with democracy is that everyone wants to have a say in it.

no, the problem with democracy is that the uninformed emotional majority of people vote for the impossible things they WANT, and the disasterous worst possible state that occurs instead is what they GET.

aditionally above a local level most politicans are crooks and the only thing worse than lawyers.
Feb 24, 2006 ctishman link
Add to that the fact that all of them also are lawyers.

Filed my 1040a mid-january so I could get a little more money for college than I did last year (in this school year, my student financial assistance was a grand total of $159 to help with the $17,559 tuition).

Spellcast, that is why you have to protect the people from themselves. Of course a grassroots democracy will not work, but once you institute a more sophisticated version, it chugs along more or less well.

Republics (usually) work fine, as well, of course. They are, of all other government types, closest to democracies. At least that's how I see it.

Hehe tuition around here is about 1200 euro a year, while people get at least 200 (and up to 600) a month of financial assistance.

Another problem of democracy is that politicians want to get re-elected, which causes a them to give things like tax exempts on the last months of their term.

Ananzi: you are frequently criticised for your posts. Perhaps the criticism is justified sometimes, but in this case you are right ON !!!!!!
