Cunjo: I partially share your enthusiasm for Firefox. On my Mac it is somewhat faster than Safari, but still has some problems rendering web pages that I use.
And, although it claims to support many foreign languages, in reality it does not.
After weeks of experamenting with various settings, it was never able to display
a Thai language website. Somewhat better (at least for a while) was Deer Park
Alpha 2. It rendered Thai language websites correctly right out of the box (as it were). Unfortunately, after updating Deer Park, it lost it's ability to "speak" Thai.
Although I have dumped Firefox, I retain Deer Park because of it's superior ability
to render websites that are *ahem* "optimized" for IE. Another thing; The Firefox
folks are EXTREMELY unresponsive to requests for info or help. In fact, they have
NEVER responded to any of my inquiries.

In windows I've never had any problems with firefox (other than the occasional microsoft application hang that would kill it), though I've never tried to get it to read Thai.
Firefox has never been one of Mozdev's better support-staffed projects. as for why, your guess is good as mine. I'm not even sure how many people are an the development team.
The fact remains though, that in a Windows environment, Firefox is FAR SUPERIOR to the bundled and masochistic IE.

For a mac browser, check out shiira.

Funky, kinda like a cross between Firefox and Safari.
