Video software recommendations?
Hi all
I'm looking for a recommendation for video software. Price isn't really an issue (I'm not paying for it), and it doesn't have to be feature-laden. There's one feature it must have - read on.
The software is needed to assist with a medical procedure in which a flexible scope is used. Normally the scope is used with a simple eyepiece that only one person can view. We have a modified Logitech webcam that attaches to the eyepiece and to a laptop, enabling everyone in the room (including the patient) to see what's going on. We also record the procedure as an .avi - though the format doesn't really matter much.
We have the proprietary Logitech software that came with the camera, and it works okay, but what we really need is software that can display a usable full-screen realtime image as it records. The image displayed by the Logitech software during recording is smaller than we would like.
Suggestions?

Anyone?
I'd suggest mplayer, but I don't know if it can stream from a device.

yeah .. another option is transcode. I'm pretty sure it can encode and display at the same time (using the pv filter). But it only works on unix based platforms IIRC.
Thanks. Any other opinions? The full screen when it's streaming from a camera is the main thing.
What OS are you using? Under Linux, if the webcam has a Video4Linux (V4L) compatible driver, there's plenty of V4L compatible apps that should be able to do what you want.
Currently we have a Vaio with Windows on it. I might be able to appeal to the powers that be in the IT dept to allow and support Linux.
Just a quick note, some models of Logitech webcams have better Linux support than others. See section 4.5 here for more info: http://www.linux.com/howtos/Webcam-HOWTO/devices.shtml
