Hitchhiker's!
Well, I figured someone would have posted by now... but I will.
The Hitchhiker's Guide movie actually was far better than I had expected. It did the book justice, in my opinion. Except for the Heart of Gold being an eyeball, and the Vogon ships being cubic, it was very similar, minus the minor plot changes. I would have liked to see the Heart of Gold being like the royal cruisers from Star Wars: Episode Baby Boy (1, for stupids), but eh.. whatever.
The soundtrack rocks too. My friend loaned it to me, and the music's cool. Especially the Dolphins singing So Long and Thanks for all the Fish. That rocks.
Use those towels. Do it.

The movie, in my opinion, was very very good. The soundtrack was great, and fitted quite well.
The book was based off of the radio show, and was not meant to follow the radio show, they had differences and similarities. Same as the movie, the movie was not meant to follow the book. Still, it rocked.
I liked the heart of gold the way it was, especially the effect for the infinite improbability drive.

Seen it.
Loved it.
Thats all I have to say.

It was good, better than I expected, but I don't think I'd go so far as to say "it did the book justice." The book is better. The book is ALWAYS better.
it was quite entertaining.. I was a little dissapointed that they didnt visit the restraunt at the end of the universe tho. On the other hand killing all the main characters probably isnt a good way to end a movie.
:)
On a related note the soundtrack is awesome.. i've had so long and thanks for all the fish stuck in my head for about 3 days now tho.

I saw the movie too and loved it.
Spellcast: I didn’t expect them to go to the “Restaurant at the End of the Universe” in this movie. That’s really the second book.

Although the first book ends with Zaphod saying, "I'm hungry, let's go to the Restaurant at the End of the Universe," or something like that. Darn... I lent my copy of HHGTG to my cousin.
The R@tEotU gets mentioned at the end of the movie, too, IIRC. But there were some things about the ending that really bugged me.
what bugged you Beolach about the ending?
and do u guys think there will be another movie in the seris?

My biggest problem w/ the ending was how much it broke with the books. Up through most of the movie it really wasn't bad, but at the end, there were a few things that made me go "That's not right..."
SPOILER ALERT (both books & movie):
Like, in the books, Arther & Trillian do NOT end up together. In fact Trillian becomes something of a not-nice-woman. And you don't WANT to see them together.
And then, the biggest thing is Arther turning down the chance to go back to Earth the way it was. That's the whole plot of most of the books, is Arther trying as hard as he can to go back.
So, to answer your question about whether I think there will be a sequel movie, I hope not, because the way they ended this movie I can't see how any additional movies would keep with the books at all very well. But, considering it made a decent amount of cash, there probably will be more movies.
Oh, and before anyone jumps on me, yes I know there have already been many incarnations of tHHGttG, even before the books, and several of the different versions have drastically different characters & plots, but even knowing that I still prefer the books, and don't like some of the things they changed in the movie.

I'm still jumping on you. The movie was not at all meant to follow the book except very loosely, just like the book was not meant to follow the radio show. The radio show didn't have arthur searching for earth, and if it did it was very brief.
It's not so much that it doesn't follow the book, as it is the way it breaks with the book. IMO Arther having the option to go back to Earth, and turning it down is far less interesting than his desiring to do so, but being unable.
I haven't read the books in awhile but here’s my 2cents.
SPOILER ALERT (both books & movie):
I thought the 1st book ends exactly the same way the movie ended. They go off to the Restaurant at the end of the universe. Then the story picks back up in the second book.
What I totally didn't understand is the Vogon's chasing them. That wasn't in the first book at all. The Vogon’s don't try to kill them until the last book. And that’s only to finish the job they started in the first book. To kill everyone on earth. Arthur and Trillian got away from the destruction of earth and the Vogon’s had to make sure the job was complete before they reported that the job was finished.
And if I understand it correctly, the same Trillian that starts in the 1st book is not the same in the last book. I'm not sure what happened to the 1st Trillian but the 2nd one is definitely from a parallel earth. She didn't leave earth with Zaphod Beeblebrox originally.
I understand why Arthur didn't want to stay on the new earth. In the books he really doesn't want to go back until he faced all his hardships. Being stranded on earth in the past, almost being blown up by a sun, having a large spider after you, for example would make anyone want to go back home. So the first book is kind of tame he had a little hard ship but not much.

As always, spoilers from the book.
There are two Trillians in the last book. First is the one that did go with Zaphod, became a news reporter, dropped random off at Arthur's place, then went back to earth which promptly got destroyed. The second is Trisha McMillan (Trillian's actual name) who had to go get her makeup bag before going with Zaphod, but he didn't stay, so Trisha never went back to get her makeup bag which caused her to lose a job at a news company then one day she gets taken to the 10th planet in our solar system by aliens, etc.
Short answer: The original Trillian is there, along with the parallel earth Trillian.
