I am sitting here in my apartment looking out over the docking bays here at TPG headquaters in Dau and as I watch the comings and goings of daily commerce an old memory from ages back pops right in there.
I was a young lad, me and my kid sister Annelise. With hardly a single credit to rub together and all I could afford after finishing school with the free EC-88 was an EC-101 and looking with envy at those neat Wraiths sitting at the shipyard. Yeah times were hard and I knew I'd be a bad pirate for sure on account of my sister. Ma and Pa were killed right after sister was born by a pirate attack, Annelise was all I had left.
We just managed to get by with me working as a gunner on a UIT Cap ship and with the UIT minimum wage and going without many nice things I put Annelise through school. I dam well made sure that she wouldn't have to go through what I had to, just for her sake. I momentarily come out of my memory as the virtual news channel opens up with a full sized human hologram anchor lady giving out the latest news, "dam it", I shout as I'd forgotten I'd set the frigging thing to report news on the hour. I scramble to turn it off and just before I do a name of a ship I knew only too well was mentioned, the caster goes on with "Today it has been reported that the UIT trade ship 'Archers Quest', I start to go numb and my feelings of when ma and pa were killed begin to well up inside as the ship Archers Quest is captained by my sister Annelise, she grown up and married a Captain Archer and the cast goes on to say "won a crucial battle today on the UIT Grey space border", then my feelings change fast from near despair to anticipated excitement at this , the caster goes on to say "without any loss of UIT lives", I knew that should anything happened I would've known before the newscaster would've. Piracy had been going down steadily in recent months and Annelise felt the loss of Ma and Pa more than I did and had vowed to kill any pirate that came across her, she had her own Vendetta alright.
As for me in this large apartment it wasn't until three years as a gunner the war between the Serco and Itani nation broke out and although there is a fragile cease fire now most ex-servicemen on both sides now being without a job turned to piracy to feed their hunger for death and to survive in a world where the rule of the gun in that how powerful is that gun wasn't powerful enough anymore for you to gain respect. It is no secret that UIT members sold weapons during the war and made huge profits from it. I knew I had a head for business and at the hight of the war our Cap ship was in many skirmishes, mainly to keep trade routes open whilst one faction tried to close it, I was given a ship, a Wraith mkIII for exceeding service beyond the call of duty.
