It's the coolest thing in the world to blow up a ship in one shot. Thanks for the advanced rail intro Look! For a pirate, you're ok!
Serious thread necromancy. All hail Alamar the railgod.
Yeah, he was the One.
"All hail Alamar the railgod," said Shape.
I would hail his ship if I could... Come back Alamar! (you are missed, Alamar.)

All I can really remember Alamar for, is being rag-bait. He sucked xithrite blue when it came to dodging flares.
Oh, phaserlight, remember this? It's from May 24th 2005:
I just had one of the best rail fights in a very very long time. I was dueling Phaserlight, dual rail vults on both sides, his SVG versus my Vulturis.
I start off to see what he's got, I turn FA on and go close. Phaserlight says thank you very much and lands two double hits. there goes 5600 armor. hm, I'm at 45% or so after maybe 35 seconds of combat.
fine, let's do this. I turn off FA. Phaserlight and I both strafe hard with lots of rolling, we exchage a lot of shots, I score one single hit, but that's all. he turns to backrolling, I park. he goes to 1200m, and starts to close again, we start over. basically, we start from scratch, except we're at 50% ammo or so each, and I'm at 45%, he's at 80-odd percent.
another couple of minutes of dancing with FA off. more shots are fired, lots of close calls, we drift apart and he backrolls again. he's at 65% or so, I'm at 18%. this is not good. I have 18 rails left. this is not good at all. okay. breathe. concentrate. frustrate him for that last hit. wear him down.
we close again, he rolls and rolls and fires a few shots to see if he gets lucky.
he doesn't.
I just wait, this is good. this is what I want. suddenly he turbos right under me, he likes that move, turbo past you to turn and rail as you're turning. I decide do gamble it out, and gently strafe and turn, trusting my snap shot over his.
two rails fly past me, probably 10m from anywhere on my ship. at the same time two of my rails tear his cockpit apart.
Phaserlight rolls out and disengages. that did not go according to plan. we exchange some rails as both of us are looking for the right distance to play at.
rails are getting far and few between, he's not taking potshots anymore, he's almost out. I have under 10 left. I'll need three hits. 30% hit ratio against a vult determined to not get railed. nice choice for an official duel there Alamar. oh, and Maso is watching. right. no pressure. no pressure at all...
I let Phaserlight glide to almost 2K as I park. let him roll. breathe. the last bursts have been all mine. keep cool. he's going to try to lure out your rails. tempt you.
Phaserlight comes back, realizing I'm not following his backrolling this time either. no pause, he just turns at 2200m or so. good. he's not stopping and thinking, he's flying. good. just keep doing that.
he tap-boosts and we both lure out some shots each. I switch off using doubles all together, single rails only now. but I still fall down to six rails. he fires a double that get close, too close, but they're still misses. my reply however, isn't.
one rail hits the outer wing of his vult and he banks quickly to just move, I fire another rail in his path, too far in front of him to hit, and he counterstrafes. I smirk, bad mistake buddy. I fire the rail gun that hit him pretty much one MkII refire rate ago. *bleep*. midcenter on his vult. he starts backrolling off again, I let him go. I have three rails left, and I need one hit. I'm not getting that when he's backrolling like that.
I just glance at the armor left, 18%. heh. no matter. this is now a matter of will. he stops and comes back for the last time. I strafe a bit here and there, dancing inside an imaginary sphere. come on Phaserlight, the chips are down, pull your safe move. fall back to the safe stuff.
I wait, and don't you know it. he boosts and I fire. and the frigging mouse calls my right mouse button click a click of both buttons, there goes two rails! and neither hit. breathe!
he goes close, getting really impatient now, aren't we? come on, you know you want to... you know its safe...
he boosts. locks on a path under me and looks for the turn. but I don't turn, I strafe. as he turns, his rails are far from my vult, but he has learned, he make the vult extremly slim, he must have watched the radar or just gotten damn lucky. it doesn't matter. it's just a vult. it's a snap shot at 100m while both ships are spinning. almost in slow motion the SVG glides into my aim and then explodes.
heh. I'm out of rails. my duelist however, he's out a ship. fair trade.

Alamar!
Fuck off!
Al!!! Get back here!
I imagine the noobs haven't seen this. As such, it could use a bump.
Great job, ladron. Now we'll have a noob or two pull a Mecha and decide that they'll try to "learn the way of the rail." Lots of free PKs for everyone else, though.
Haha, possibly. I take pride in my collection of pk's, and if some noob insists on adding to them by attempting to "learn the way of the rail", I certainly won't complain.
That isn't why I revived the thread though.

Funny thing is, in Alamar's story above where is having a great time dueling phaserlight, could never happen today.
Some dickhole like peyclown or zamzx would interrupt the duel, flare the both of them and say something like "Pwnt. U fags suk."
Vendetta has definitely changed.

Wow, 230-240m/s, It's been a long time since i've gone that fast.. Stupid turbo cap.
Stupid turbo cap.
Agreed.
Agreed.
yea, i think the 225 nerf is probably the most universally hated change to vo ever. not sure why they don't undo what is oviously a very very unpopular change.
They've stated reasons, look, which mostly have to do with supporting people who play VO on an IPoAC connection from Cambodia.
Why Guild Software feels they need to support players who are connecting from Cambodia via IPoAC is a matter for another thread.

Since I revived this, I have seen large numbers of noobs flying around with railguns, much to my amusement.
Did I call it or what?
