Dear Serco Nation

Nov 27, 2004 ananzi link
I would like to educate you folks about the mining beam. The mining beam is not a weapon. If I scan your ship, I am just fooling around. There is no need to blast me to death.

If, after you start blasting me, I drop a few mines and run, that is not a reason to consider me 'hostile'. I am just trying to save my own ass.

Guys seriously, chill out. Have a coke and a smile. I'm sure you'll get your Neut III back someday. Don't take it out on me.

Has it occurred to you that maybe some people don't LIKE being messed around with like that?

If you are going to fool around, you have to be aware that maybe some people don't KNOW that you're messing around, and don't WANT to be messed with. Your dropping mines afterwards only reaffirms to them that you weren't actually messing around, but were provoking them into a response.

If they turn and blow the crap out of you, that's your own fault.

I know that I've been the victim of "friendly" fooling around. I was watching a couple UIT mock dogfighting while we were waiting for a convoy to leave, and one of them decided that I should join in the fun, so from a range of about 80 meters, unexpectedly launches a volley of swarm missiles and finishes me off with his Neut III. I don't think that I've had to deal with your joking around yet, but be aware that I don't take kindly to friendly messing around by people from other nations because I don't want someone to misfire and blow me to pieces.

I concur, and I'm an itani, don't taunt people. At least tell them what you are doing, or ask.

Speaking as someone who's been "messed around" with, I can make the following warning:
If your "messing around" has even the SLIGHTEST chance of damaging me or any nearby allies, I will attack. And I fight to the death. (sometimes.)

Pilot of the UIT.

Firing your mining beam at my ship will be considered a hostile act. Dropping mines as you run away screaming chill out, makes me want to shoot you more.

P.S. I have had my OCF (Optical Coke Feed) and still want to shoot you.

Don't EVER scan a Serco. Deep inside their ships they are very insecure and act accordingly.

Be veery careful with your actions. UIT's are proven untrustworthy through numerous times. Approaching a ship in high speed raises a lot of alarm bells.

The first sight of green/red/whatever, will in most cases cause a reflective burst of fire against the approaching UIT. If said UIT continues to drop mines or use heavy artillery, they will be considered as a sneaky hostile who is better off in their home station.

Once we were a trusting, jovial people who valued science and the arts, we still strive for it, but there are only so many stabs we take from others, and there is much to work with from -all- players if you wish to regain the trust of our nation.

thats funny i have been attacked plenty of times w/o warning by serco, but god forbid someone scan them with a mining beam.

Scan me (or any wingman) again, and I'll bankrupt ya rather than the one measly kill..

Yarrr...

thats ok ananzi, I've been attacked without warning by plenty of UIT or Itani. Its part of the game, every nation has some players that just like to shoot things. Most of the time i just fly away and ignore the attacker if a quick check on their characterinfo shows them to be low enough level to ignore.

In general I personally would regard being scanned by a mining beam as a rathar measly, pitiful, silly, and lame joke, not an attack. However being something of a humor critic, i'd probably shoot you for the joke instead. In general doing anything to another player is a good way to tell the other player that you want to interact.

Scanning someone(anyone) tells them you are interested in a response from them;
now some people will scan you back, or laugh in sector chat, others will blow your silly arse out of space. Neither is a bad, evil, or incorrect response. Blowing you up IS a mean response, but some people are just mean. Learn to leave the mean people alone. After all, if you go out into the woods and try to pet a rabid dog, the only person to blame when you get bit is, umm YOU.

Hmm. Did you just call me a rabid dog, you serco scoundrel?

in the name of the lady, the next time I see you I'm going to blow you up!

I generally wont let anyone with the potential to be hostile reside in the same sector as me, much less scan me with a mining beam.

In otherwords, you attack everyone you see. Nice way to gain allies...

It's all a matter of precautionary measures.
