An Appeal to a Serco Perspective

Now, maybe I got Icarus-ed one too many times, but in my mind at least it was the belligerent prom-jocks who where the primary voice of the Serco during the Alpha. And now the Itani-penned backstory pits them firmly in the role of the villain, which I believe is a dire mistake for any player-character race. Reading it, the Serco Nation seems malicious and unsympathetic in the extreme.

Soon we'll start to see new players buy the game at a retail store and read the backstory in the manual before they create their first character. I do not see it as too much of a stretch that the more "law-abiding" n00bs will not want to play such an unsympathetic character, while the reverse might be true for a pirate-to-be. Putting these two together, I see a dark future ahead for the player-base of the Serco Empire.

With all this in mind, I appeal to the Serco Nation in general, and a1kon in particular, to draft a Serco-centric perspective of the past few thousand years since Exile. To the newly militaristic Itani they appear as emotionless killing machines, but surely they must see themselves quite differently...

I couldnt agree more.

Incidentally, its not possible to be a prom-jock. It takes far too much time and effort to learn to fly the prometheous well for prom-jock to be an appropriate term IMO. I prefer Prometheous Specialist. :)

No no no. The prometheus isn't something you Specialize in, its an art, as signified by the meaning of the Promethea, Inspiration through battle.

Promethean artists would be the correct intepretation.

Yea a Serco-centric (as well as an Itani-centric) view of history would be nice. The Serco come off looking so bad after that history, I think we're going to remain the smallest nation - not that I mind the bragging rights, but having more troops helps.

To be totally fair, why not tell the story from all three points of view, Serco, Itani, and UIT?

Some new players will join Serco just for it's badboy image, some will join because they are the type to root for the underdog. I originally joined (Serco) because it seemed to have the smallest number of players online at any given time. Yuppers... I'm one of those who roots for the underdog type players.

They can nerve the Prom to nothing with this new mass system of weapons,
they can write a backstorry that prevents people to join Serco, they can try to make newbs forgett LADY SERCO.

It might be horrible, to fight against hundreds of Itani and the new UIT, whom mass of players seems to help them (Dogs, I say, are joining the strong mass), but...

I will allways be Serco.
Not because I am a warlike fighter, but because of the nice People flying for Serco.

The reason you can't "jock" the prometheus is because it requires a different mindset and tactics to fight with. This knowledge is only imparted to a select few- flying the valkyrie actively detracts from your flying skill with the prometheus.

The bodies of the Itani have become weak and infirm with idleness, whilst the Serco are incomparably strong in both body AND mind.

And mr. sugar, remember that a sunflare tube weighs a LOT. 3 of them put a severe cramp in the valkyrie's agility, y'know?

Yeah, people must be noticing by now that the Serco are averaging half of the other nation's online numbers at the moment. This needs remedying, the Serco need (God help me) to be cuddlier than they are now.

Pet ussssss...

Pet our poison spinnessssss...

Really, though. The modern Serco don't have much of a culture outside the Games and Karun according to Canon. I have tried to start several groups to assist in this:

The Faithkeepers
Ultranational populist cult worshipping Lady Serco, a diety that who is the whole of the Serco Dominion personified. They value long-term strength over glory in the ring, and almost deify the act of making war, as it is such an integral aspect of Serco culture. The cult is respected and sponsored by the government, and their propaganda is distributed far and wide.

The current leader of the Faithkeepers is Ku Genin. You will need to pass a test of faith before admittance.

The Serco Monks
If the Faithkeepers have a polar opposite, the Serco Monks are it. They are the gentle ones, clerics who would rather fall in battle than fire a single shot in their own defense, or even block an attack. Monksgive up their names and fly only the EC-88, from which they meticulously remove the weapon. They philosophize and ramble endlessly, and consider such actions holy, believing only in unconscious babbling will the subconscious' wish be revealed. They are outcasts from the Dominion, and although they consider themselves Serco, nobody else does. The Monks maintain a combination evangelical booth and Serco foods market in the plaza at Bractus Hold.

Enquire with Serco Monk #1 (should you find him) about joining the order.

so..... no one wants to draft an official Serco Backstory, to hopefully be displayed on the website alongside the Itani Canon??

..should I link this thread in General to generate more interest?

As I have never been a member of the Serco Nation, I do not believe that I am eligible to undertake this myself.... . .

I could try, I suppose. I'll need help from some of the other Serco veterans to fill in the details.

hmm, I think I fleshed something out in the General forum as the story went live.. lemme see if I can find it.

If people really want a Serco-centric perspective, I think it might be possible to pry some time away from playing Vendetta to write something up. I don't think it'd be nearly as in depth as the one written by Incarnate, but I believe that I could write a Serco-nationalistic "history" for the community, based on the events from Incarnate's Itani-nationalistic version - unless anyone from Guild Software objects, of course.

Exert from the Journal of NewbKillerzdillerz, Serco Pilot.

"Omg omg.. I couldn't believe how stupidz those newbz where when i wtfpwnt them!! His ship just sat there while I blew it to pieces!! Maybe he was having lunch or something hahz hahz lolz!"

Another sample,..

One of the latest Serco breakthroughs was pioneered by the brilliant Serco scientist BastardM0f0. This amazing scientistic discovered that by burning kitten feet one can generate reaction mass at surprisingly quick intervals. 2000 kitten paws can power a modern space ship from Sol II all the way to the newb stomping grounds of Azek.

This unfortunately leaves behind a hideous by product, the rest of the kitten. However, this was resolved when another brilliant Serco scientist SadisticNutKicker invented the popular Serco snack, Kitten Crunchies!

Just my offering.. if you guys want to use those for your backstory go ahead.

uh....

Moving right along...

Kitten paws for energy? Kitten Crunchies? that is just sick, from any perspective.

Indeed, a sercocentric version is needed.

I think it is again time to sing the ballad of Our Lady Serco. Feel free to add stuff in the form of iambic abab, 8 syllables each line.

Thus spake Serco:

Entry 1
St. 1

The man who cries in plaintive tone,
who begs the stars his soul to save
shall find himself bereft, alone
and stumble blindly to his grave.

The man who ties his fate to earth
and picks the land with plough and spade
shall be as mortal as his crop,
his corpse within its cold arms laid.

The man who fears no living thing
who raises swords to cut the air,
who dares forsake his fields to bring
the stars home, captured in his snare

This man alone deserves to know
no star-struck madness trap his mind
not bound to earth, his crops to grow
he rules the stars and men in kind.

St. 2

Of such proud stock was our first Lord
who led us from the coward's fold,
who made us strong and act as one
And brought us glories yet untold.

Her name was Serco, strong and tall
Her mind was sharp as diamond blades
She summoned us to battle's squall
She led in war and glorious raids.

Her spear was of the strongest steel
no useless jewels marred its thrust
she called us with it to her heel
and placed in us her utmost trust.

"Bow to my warriors, whimp'ring slaves!
Tremble before my army's might!
Pledge your soul to save your lives,
or hide your corpses from my sight!

St. 3

Our ships were built of mighty ore
were polished 'til no bolt could stick
we could not know what was in store
the cowardice, the ruse, the trick.

Across the stars our armies marched
We beat the coward's cringing back
Unto Itani's triumphal arch
None could stay the conqueror's track!

But victory's tale we can not tell
Itani chose the traitor's ken
beneath the table of truce she fell
Serco, poisoned by the pen.

We took her name to keep us strong
In her memory, on we fight
we gash our ships to show the blood
she was denied that fateful night.

St. 4

And lo! when our wrath is roused
nobody can withstand it's might
and in our adversary's housing
shall rise a flood of piercing fright.

His fortress will no longer hold
our raging forces' shatt'ring blows
and piercing arrows manifold
shall reap the wretched in their throes.

It is by then She shall return
from beyond the crimson veil
and her voice alone shall burn
through steel and concrete, ev'ry seal.

For no-one is to bar our way
when Serco's sons and daughters rise
our foes shall tremble in dismay
and await their just demise.
