What is the best way to gain exp when you are a low level. Also how do you find hive queens.

It's tedious hunting queens by yourself so make a group. If my experience is typical then there is one queen per system and they seem to spawn only in empty sectors.

Start in one corner of the system and proceed to jump to each empty sector and check for a queen. Obviously it will go faster if you have a buddy looking from the opposite corner.

I've heard you can follow or will be able to follow collector bots to the queens sector but I don't think this has been implemented yet.

The best way to gain exp is to take missions (under the Missions tab in the stations) and level up. Once you have enough exp, you can dock in any station belonging to your nation, go to the Missions tab, abort any mission you might already have in progress, and then select License Test to level up.

I would start with trade missions and the basic combat mission until you feel proficient, then try other missions.

Powerbotting for anyone:

* ) don't die. repair rather than die.
Take the Beginner combat mission.
Get the 20 oruns of the first ring
go to a dentek-only sector.
Kill denteks until you reach level 1
( around here you should probably save your scrap metal for the cargo missions )
Break off, take the levels ( you'll progress faster in light weapons than in combat points, thats ok )
Get the upgrade, do some trade until you can afford the license levels.
( Centurion is a good ship for this ;)
Pick a new weapon, the phase blaster is a good choice, overall, value velocity over damage.
Keep botting dentek collectors until you reach level 3, then its time to get out of those old collectors and grab an Advanced combat mission. Try your hand, if the harder bots are too hard, the artemis or denteks would allow you to reach level four. as you reach level 4-5 youll be able to up your Heavy weapons to 4, which will give you a plasma devastator.
Get this, equip it as the only weapon on a Warthog, and go out botting to get your heavy weapons up in order with the Light ones ( You'll have seen that those run up -very- fast compared to the combat )

Break off as you reach combat 5-6. takes you an evening or so.
