In game practice sessions
This is something that I miss from the days of old. Tutoring.
It was quite some time since I sat down with my cent and learned to fly beneath the tutoring of DanMan and others. It was the old sector 7, ("oh, 9 is like the new 7") And the mood was pretty nice. If I don't misremember there was a complete truce during the times of "practice" (See rules of engagement / Duels).
So, I'd like to propose an in-game tutoring. Simply put, I want you oldtimer pilots, ace's and vets to step up and approach a medi-newb to instruct. Start with somone in your own team if so, Show them how to handle a centurion, or inclined, how to pilot a heavy.
It'd be nice if there were more people around, both to offer commentary and advice, and to get a chance to kill off the obligatory griefers that will show up. (Valk escort / INM / SDF, care to be of help here?)
Suggested things to teach:
proper use of sunflares
rollbreaking
Heavy ship dodge and roll
Auto aim offset by speedchange/distance
(I assume the pilots already know how to barrelroll and backpedal. )
Standard rules apply:
Bussess are sacred, not good for practice really.
Primary trainingship is the cent + energy / rocket
Alternative is the hog or atlas
(Vultures, valks and wraiths are dissuaded for practice, as they spoil you with the plethora of weapons and the sleek shape of the vulture.)
Where to have it? I'd suggest 13, even if its close to hometurf of the Serco nation, mainly because its relatively free of asteroids, no bots, and the station is placed rather nicely. other alternatives are the s5 outpost and 14 or 7. I'd suggest to avoid 9 due to its frequent traffic, better to have tutoring "out of the ways" a bit.
So, fellow gamers, anyone who volounteers to do some tutoring?

i'm all for it... and i will reserve the right to walk away if the new player continually does not listen to me and my instructions.
in short: i enlist.

the INM already offers this service to all Itani pilots. One of our main goals was to train newbs( and therefore make a stronger nation).
Many newbs or semi-newbs are hard to teach however. I encourage people to try however as it is very rewarding. I have taught many people of all nations in different things, now I focus on Itani training only.

I spend quite a bit of time attempting to train new pilots, however many of them dont want to learn, they just want money. Very few people are willing to take half an hour and listen to an experienced pilot. I'm perfectly willing to help in any capacity however. Contact me if you need my assistance.
I'm not that good about imparting basic flying skills, as what I do I don't think about, and thinking about it is just .... too hard! :P
I'll teach intermediate and advanced combat techniques:
1. How to use rail guns effectively (In Valks, Rags, Vultures, Cents, and Hornets)
2a. How to avoid someone intent on rocket-ramming
2b. How to kill someone intent on rocket-ramming (using sunflares, energy, or a combination of both)
3. How to select an effective loadout based on your style.
Course 1 will focus on watching for patterns in dodging, waiting until a target boosts, and quickly switching between physics mode to dodge and arcade mode to shoot.
Course 2a. will focus on watching how an attacker boosts and engages his target at close range, and how to avoid such an attack. Course 2b. will focus on how to use weapons (as well as your opponent's) to defeat someone at very close range.
Course 3. will focus on moving beyond a triple setup (3 flares, gauss, or rail) and crafting a good loadout that can engage both near and far targets simultaneously.
Contact me in-game if you wish to learn.
My names are:
Serco Fighter 1
SirCamps
Warrior of the Sun
Confederate Valkyrie
Defense Ship 4

Non-noob training too: I need some of that switching to arcade mode and back practice Camps, arcade=death mode for me as it is. Who was I fighting recently who switched back and forth a lot? I think it was Hachi. Pretty effective.
I'm always willing to train or spout off random advice in game too. Come see me if you need beginner dodging techniques, or can't trade to save your life.

I do this anyway, but only for Neutrals.
What I had hoped to get away from was parts of that "only our team may do this", as its quite inconvenient, and doesn't foster a good player to player culture.
Besides, its more rewarding to actually take the damage ;).
As for lessons, I'll go up with heavy craft aid for those who require it. Minimum base economy for practical tutoring is 200k due to the high costs of heavy layouts. Practicship is the atlas or the promethus for those who want it.
Rules of engagement apply for practice sessions (until orange, kill your opponent and you pay the ship, yadda yadda.)
Hopefully we can get something working regardless of what nation the beginner is.

The sadistic family is more than willing to impart their knowledge to any player who requests it, although we do reserve the same right as tosh ;)

I have no gripes about helping members of other teams. But as far as spending valuable time and money working to actively train newbies rather than just dueling or imparting advice, I reserve it as a service to the Gold nation.

I will happily teach anyone who wants to learn how to use mines properly. Both as a tactical and strategic weapon.
Would just like to say that I held my first lesson tonight on mines. I appreciate that everyone understood that it was a lesson and no one got upset and tried to interfere. I would also like to put out a special mention to StarFreeze for providing some extra help with the lesson (IE turboing out and showing WHEN mines damage, etc.)
you guys are great :)... offering lessons and all.
when are the next lessons?
