Can I get some definitions of griefing etc? Gut Buster of the Itani chased my vImbe' of the Serco character thru three sectors to destroy my ship and pissed me right off. I wasn't aggressive towards Gut Buster or anyone else but here I am, turboing across multiple sectors just to get my trade goods to where I want them traded when my very expensive ship and very expensive trade goods get blown to smithereens.

What guild, if any, should I join to get mutual protection and bounty out against someone who does this in the future?

BTW, I had a very low bounty on my character and Gut Buster didn't even use laser weapons, he resorted to large-blast-radius missles; that's kinda cheap in my book. I dodged and ran for all I was worth, to no avail.

Bastard.

Next time, just get to the nearest station you can, dock, and call for help. Use Team chat, but if nobody is on go for global chat if you must. Once you get to know more people in the game you can start PMing for people to help you.

Some people (not a lot unfortunately) would be happy to help you even if they aren't Serco. I would.

Well Bastard, that is griefing...

griefing, as i see it, is when you are hunted for no apearing reason, or hunted repetedly by some one for any reason!

about the missles he was shooting at you. they are called Flares...they are the weapon of choice for meny griefers and pirates (afaik) due to the simpliness and ease of their use.

if you dont wish to trade then i only suggest you learn how to run as fast as hell (and it can be done...even by self teaching. that's how i got it...but you sould ask some one to teach you how to dodge or run away).

you should also work on fighting the bots in your home sectors.

cosidering the guilds i can't tell you much since i'm not taking active part in any guild. but what you can do is arange convoyes of meny pilotes whom will trade with you:)

if that won't work, ask some ace pilot (or fighter) to escort you...if he won't do it just because you are asking him (which is most likely) then you can suggest to pay him a sertain amount of price you can aford, and still have profit
i hope some of the guilds will post here for you and help you contact them out-game so you can join them...

hope i've been of asistance:)

If there is an SDF character online you can contact them for help, since that is one of the reasons the guild exists. AS far as being chased across several sectors, well that is part of the game as it exists now.

A few suggestions for avoiding fights if you are just interested in trading.

Stick to traderoutes that involve your home sector, this way you have at least one sector where you are relatively safe.

Press the "u" key whenever you enter a sector or undock from a station, take a quick glance at the list to see if there are any known pirates on the list.(eventually you will get to know who the problem players are) if there are, get out of that sector or redock as fast as you can, go elsewhere. A successful low profit traderun is better than an unsuccesful high profit run.

press the "target nearest enemy" key (default is "x") all the time, every 5 seconds or so. If an enemy is coming at you in a hurry, try to turn so you can see him, at least this way he cant attack you from behind. if you are close to a station or WH, you can try to get there, but sometimes you just have to fight.

NEVER invest all of your cash in one ship or one load of cargo, it's better to leave a few thoulsand credits unspent and take a half full load so that if you are destroyed you dont have to start all over.

Set your home sector in your nation sector, this way you cant be "trapped" in a station by a pirate or group of pirates.

If you need any help, feel free to contact me ingame, I'll try to be of assistance.

Magus: Thanks for the tip and the offer for help...

lunitary: Heh, while "Bastard" is one of the nicknames I use in real life, I meant for that use to apply to Gut Buster. As far as flares go, would you suggest that a trader invest in flares for defense? Running as fast as hell is something that I've learned from this game and others, if I want to get rich, I gotta minimize costs which means not losing ships. I appreciate the advice...

Spellcast: I knew he was after me after he followed me into the second sector, I was pretty far ahead of him hitting the x key pretty regularly. I think I will build my wealth back up, I was lucky enough to have a couple of backup ships and to be able to buy my ship and cargo over again about three or four times but it still hurt my credits.

Thanks for your help, folks. I also wouldn't mind if Gut Buster got a taste of his own medicine several times over...

I've decided to start working on a site for Vendetta (yes, another Vendetta site). I'll post the URL somewhere when I have it or skeletoned. If anyone would like to contribute, I'll post how to do so as well...

Thanks, y'all.

Sorry about the "name":)

and one more thing....the idea in doddging is not to get hit, and thus not loosing the ship:)

Okay, several points Mr. Spellcast missed.

The SDF has a treaty with the Traders Guild to escort them for 5000c round trip (or a percent of profit). As Spellcast mentioned, contact an SDF fighter and he's REQUIRED to respond under instances you didn't start the conflict.

Or another option is to join the SDF entirely then just trade there, SDFs always respond to each other's calls since we are the guardians of Serco, and no one guards us.

PS: To contact the TG commander, visit the Community Sites page, use the TG COHESION operator, NOT the Trader's Federation of Vendetta as from all reports they dont exist anymore.

He only did it once? I think he was probably just a pirate, not a griefer. If he were a griefer, he would have followed you all the way and station camped, waiting for you to come out.
Feb 24, 2004 Pyroman_Ace link
yes, Pyro has a point, but there is a problem with that analysis. If he were a mere pirate, he would have no need to chase a trader so far. This sounds like it might've been a revenge killing, a non-Serco attacking a random Serco out of anger. Hmm, the SDF will step up patrols as far out as s9, s13, and s5. Outside of that range, no SDF flights are officially planned, however there will probably be flights out past that range, they just wont be official.
Feb 24, 2004 Magus link
Pyroman, this is a newb. Leave your "role playing" for a second so you can help him out. No revenge involved. He wanted a PK, he chased him around. When I was a newb UncleDave chased me at least 4 sectors once before flaring me down. Asus chased me halfway across the frickin' galaxy.
Feb 25, 2004 Pyroman_Ace link
yes probably so Magus, yet these things HAVE happened before when a newb was unable to kill the pilot that attacked him, he took out his rage on a trader or lesser pilot simply to send a message.

Magus, you were carrying quite a bountiful load, as I remember. Nanites, wasnt it?

Pirates have to be persistent, or they would never catch anybody. To know you were being chased yet not make any attempt to seek safety in a station or nation sector is foolishness on your part, we must always keep our hard-earned credits from the clutches of the enemy. Learn from your own errors and equip measures suitable to make even the most hardy of pirates think twice before attmepting to bring you down. Proximity mines are very effective in this regard, as are swarms.

"Gut Buster" shall be paid well for his schooling you in the art of staying alive. I hope he accepts sunflares.

"Magus, you were carrying quite a bountiful load, as I remember. Nanites, wasnt it?"

-That was a bad day for me. I follow Starfreeze into 18 and Phoenix pirated me. Then I went back to 18, got the Nanites, went to 14 and just as I entered the ice-roid out pops your valk. I tried to turn around, but he ole Maud was too slow.

Uncle Dave in a ... VALK?!?!?!? Say it isn't so. 'Tis a sad, sad day for the Serco Dominion when Uncle Dave chooses a base Itani Valkerie over his trusty Sercon Prometheus.

dave used nothing but valks in the earlier 3.2.x days

Ah... Well... That explains it then. I came on board late in the 3.2 or early 3.3 era. I've only seen UD in Prommies. Nevermind.

Pirates are part of the game unfortunately. If you need help just ask for it. I'm no great pilot, but two people are harder to chase down and attack, than one.

Unfortunately, it makes very little difference to valk pilots.

Well, KAos_nyrb, ye got me goods, matey, and ye lit the fires of me anger. Tis a good thing I'm a nice guy... I won't say that I would have jettisoned the cargo if you had demanded it but you could have at least stated your terms... The cargo was nuthin, the ship was expensive and the loss of the ship is what upsets me more...

Ye be a mean pirate, sir. Now, did you just deduce that I had cargo or did you just get lucky a lucky find when you finally destroyed my ship? As far as I can see, there's no indicator as to whether a particular target has cargo or not...

At least you didn't completely break the bank... At least I can appreciate your timing, it was an humbling blow and irked me enough to start this thread; team play and dodging tactics will get me further in the future...

Doran, and others, thanks for the support for not-for-long newb... I'm still learning the game, true, but I'm learning quickly and the hard way... All of the answers, suggestions and offers for support are much appreciated and go along way to counter the in-game impression that folks don't help each other...
