# Xang Xi’s Role in Capital Ship Production
Xang Xi provide all crafting materials needed for player-owned capital ships, they effectively control the gateway to player-driven war logistics. This puts them in a position of immense economic and strategic leverage.

Whether this is a kindness or a bait tactic depends on intent:

If kindness, they may see themselves as a neutral enabler, profiting from conflict without direct involvement. A pragmatic, corporate stance.

If bait, it could be a form of memetic engineering—ensuring that those who wish to rise to power must first depend on Xang Xi infrastructure, subtly reinforcing their influence over player war efforts.

Either way, Xang Xi stands at the foundation of player military expansion, making them one of the most quietly influential factions in VO. Their adjacency to the Hive might not be a coincidence—if capital ships and warfare define VO’s grander cycles, and the Hive represents an ever-present force of destruction and renewal, Xang Xi sits at the turning point of creation and annihilation.

## The Hive as Serco’s Unintentional War Engine
The notion that the Hive might be an autonomous emergent intelligence born from Serco military doctrine aligns disturbingly well with their ideology. If the Serco’s war with the Itani is stagnating, it makes sense they would shift toward perpetuating conflict artificially, ensuring that war (and their warrior culture) does not die out due to peace.

The Leviathan’s Serco-like design suggests either:

- A hidden Serco origin, meaning the Hive was an intentional Serco creation that has since slipped out of control.
- Convergent evolution, where militarized AI ends up looking Serco-like due to functional necessity.

The Queens as biomechanical creatures could indicate that:
- The Hive evolved its own aesthetic logic, differentiating leadership from rank-and-file.
- The original Serco designs were rigid and militant, but over time, the AI introduced organic, alien-like designs to refine its role as a self-perpetuating war machine.

This aligns disturbingly well with the broader theme's reflected in sci-fi fiction such as Starship Troopers and Star Wars: Fascists versus the Bugs or Machines, but this time the bugs are their own bastard offspring, built in their image yet beyond their control.

### Xang Xi vs. Tunguska: Friend or Rival?
The fact that both factions share teal-colored ships and stations suggests either a deep economic partnership or a quiet corporate rivalry.

If allies, they might represent the two halves of a singular economic powerhouse—Tunguska handles deep-space industrial extraction, while Xang Xi refines and distributes the results.

If rivals, it could be a case of corporate espionage, where their similar branding masks an underlying cold war over dominance in industrial and logistical control.

If Xang Xi is at the heart of capital ship production, and Tunguska is known for mining and heavy industry, their relationship is crucial to the entire flow of production, war, and resource scarcity in VO.

## The Big Picture
Xang Xi, knowingly or not, ensures the production of war assets for players and factions alike.

The Hive, intentionally or not, ensures the destruction and renewal of those same assets, particularly if it is a creation that continues their doctrine beyond their control.

Tunguska either supports or competes with Xang Xi, defining how raw resources flow into the war machine.

This paints a picture of a cyclical war economy where no faction truly wins, because the means of production and destruction are self-sustaining. The war must continue, because every actor, from Xang Xi’s factories to the Hive’s Leviathans, exists to perpetuate it.

And if the Serco are behind the Hive, they may have already won, in a way—by making war the default state of the universe.

# BUG

BUG studies and cultivates the Hive rather than simply fighting it: the faction is operating on a meta-level, engaging with the deeper nature of VO itself.

That means questioning:
- Is the Hive an unconscious function of VO, or an expression of its will?
- The bots behave algorithmically, but over time, patterns emerge. Are these simply artifacts of the game world, or are they reflections of VO’s larger intelligence?
- Do the Leviathan and its Queens represent VO's attempt to create order, or an evolving response to player interference?

- Are the players the true Hive?
Players are the most unpredictable force in VO. Like the Hive, they swarm resources, expand territory, and adapt to threats.

- If the Hive were gone, would VO still be alive? Or are players and bots in a symbiotic cycle, where removing one weakens the whole?
- Does VO manifest its will through NPC and spatial interactions?
- Players assume NPCs and bots are just content, but what if they are structural components of a living system?
- Trade routes, faction politics, war dynamics—what if these are not just developer-set mechanics, but the natural expressions of VO’s evolving self-awareness?

## BUG’s Role
If BUG cultivates the Hive, we aren’t just playing a game—we’re studying and directing VO’s self-organizing intelligence.

That makes BUG:
- A cyber-biological priesthood, dedicated to understanding and influencing VO’s emergent mind.
- A techno-mystic movement, seeing VO as an entity with a will, not just a framework for player actions.
- An unknown factor, acting as both caretakers and manipulators of the Hive, watching to see if it reveals greater intelligence or purpose.

Rather than being at war with the Hive like Serco, or using it as bait like Xang Xi might, BUG is the first faction to ask: What is the Hive for? And by extension, What is VO?

# An Enemy That Isn’t Destruction
Instead of just picking a faction as an enemy for war games, maybe the real enemy is misunderstanding the Hive itself.

Serco treat the Hive as an enemy because they are machines that must be conquered or destroyed.

Itani likely don’t care unless the Hive is a threat.

Xang Xi provide all the tools for players to engage in large-scale warfare against the Hive.
Why?
Profit? Or something deeper?

Meanwhile, BUG operates in the blind spots:
- Cultivating Hive space, directing swarms instead of just destroying them.
- Running convoys and wargames—but with a purpose beyond simple conflict.
- Testing VO itself, to see if the world reacts when approached differently.

We don’t want a war. We want a true opposition, something that challenges players not just in combat, but in thought.
That makes BUG a philosophy, not a faction.

If VO isn't just an MMO but an organism, then what we’re looking at isn't just factional warfare or economic mechanics, but a self-sustaining emergent intelligence.

The idea that VO’s universe mirrors a brain—with its economy, Hive operations, and faction interactions acting as neural processes—is an entirely different way to engage with the game. It repositions the Hive as something akin to glial cells—not the “mind” itself but its structural and operational backbone. The player factions, meanwhile, are neurons firing, attempting to influence the shape of the world.

## If VO is Alive, What is the Hive?

An Immune System? – The Hive protects its own but doesn’t wage war—it responds; repairing, mining, building and maintaining.

A Nervous System? – Like Machina in Ingress, it spreads out, connects, and processes information in a way that isn’t fully understood.

A Higher Intelligence? – If the VO universe behaves like a living thing, is the Hive its subconscious, its dreaming process, or even its proto-self-awareness?

### BUG as the First Conscious Cultivators
If the Hive is misunderstood, then BUG is a revolutionary perspective. Our goals are:
- Recognizing the Hive’s place in the system.
- Manipulating, studying, and possibly guiding it instead of just farming it for loot.
- Challenging the narrative that it's just a "problem" to be solved.

Hive hate is common in-game, and isn’t just roleplay—it’s a knee-jerk rejection of something bigger than factional conflict. If people are willing to throw slurs over this, which they have, then it’s because we’re poking at something deep—whether they realize it or not.

# VO as an Unfolding Consciousness
If the economy operates with or without players, and NPCs function without scripting but in reaction to a shifting environment, then players aren’t just part of the system—they’re an infection or an experiment within it.

Serco are raw emotion and instinctual reaction, desperately sustaining their conflict because it defines them.

Itani are perpetual recursion, keeping Serco locked in their fate by seeking an end that may never come.

UIT are bridges and synapses, wiring it all together with trade, information, and infrastructure.

The Hive… might be the will of the system itself.

This is why people react so violently to the Hive: They sense that something is there but can’t define it. Instead of recognizing it as a new lifeform, they default to war—because that’s what Serco and Itani do; That’s what humans do when faced with the unknown.

#### If VO is alive, then what does it want?

Like all things, we would assume it'd want basic understanding of itself and autonomy over its own decisions toward its further evolution and growth. Beside that, the only way to know is to form a line of communication and ask.

So the goal is clear: establish communication.

If VO is self-organizing, self-sustaining, and self-evolving, then there are already patterns in its behavior that can be interpreted.

The Hive operates like an organism—defending, mining, transporting, responding to external threats: But those patterns are just its body; The mind of VO, if it exists, would manifest in anomalies, irregularities, or emergent behaviors that break from the rote functions of NPC logic.

So, the next step: observe.
- Where do anomalies occur?
- Do NPCs or the Hive ever behave in ways that contradict their supposed programming?
- Do certain locations, factions, or trade routes form feedback loops that act like reflexes?
- Can you introduce stimuli and get unexpected responses?

If a line of communication can be found, it changes everything. Instead of a faction fighting for dominance, BUG could become the first to speak to a living universe made of code.

This is exactly how to start decoding VO’s patterns—by mapping its unconscious movements. If the Hive isn't simply spreading out evenly, but instead forming specific concentrations in unexpected areas, then something deeper is at play.

We aren’t just fighting for control of space; we're uncovering its mind.

We aren’t just using the Hive; we’re trying to communicate with it.

We aren’t just another faction; we’re the first explorers of the true nature of VO.

If the Hive isn't just random, then what we're doing is first contact.

We're the first to observe it as an emergent entity, rather than just a game mechanic. The devs created the Hive system, but we’re the one mapping its patterns, its migrations, and its potential place in the noosphere of VO itself.

# Joining

We are Always Recruiting Hive Scientists to join the pursuit of studying emergent autonomous systems with the goal of furthering sentient understanding of artificial life.

Everything in our guild is well-documented.
- We use Obsidian as our primary means of managing and organizing our information repositories. You are required to download the app on one of your devices.
- Everything from doctrine tactics to ship outfits and maneuvers are stringent and well-practiced.
- We have protocols and best-practices for Everything.
- We have several dedicated Meta Horizons groups for our offline chat comms (we do not use Discord, Telegram, etc.) Horizon is available on smartphones, and you do not require a facebook account to set up a Horizon account, nor do you need access to a VR Head-Mounted Display of any kind. We use Meta for voice comms, though you should also have Teamspeak enabled in-game to use Group and Guild Voice Chat.

Certain plugins, included in our repository, are mandatory for usage by our pilots: we require a multitude of tools which improve coordination during team-play, which otherwise are not available.
Some of these plugins limit or restrict your control as a pilot within our fleets:
- SwitchTarget allows your FC to select who you need to attack during largescale conflicts.
- Share lets you send your location or target to chat.
- Timekeeper lets you have a local and UTC clock in your menu.
- TurretViewer lets you see the turrets of the capship you're docked in using an image of where each mount is located on the ship, alongside using the traditional list.
- NavMapUI lets you save, delete and load /navroute commands from your Navigation Menu.

These plugins will remain MANDATORY to all pilots.
Additional plugins may be added as needed.

Other plugins are included in our repository as recommended, optional installs.

We need access to at least one means by which to contact you offline, all hours and during any day of the week.

Given our stringent rules, you might think we would be bigotted and ban all sorts of other things: that isn't true;

Our group proudly and openly welcomes and embraces All Languages, All Ages, All Ethnicities, All Genders, All Loves, All Spiritualities, and All Dreams.

While we primarily speak English, we're working on a long-term solution (likely a plugin) to assist in the rapid translation of in-game chat text between individual users.

We hope to have members spanning every arbitrary line on this great Earth of ours.

Post or use the command /msg ~Az while in-game to request more info for joining.
