VaultRaid event final test

``1/19/2021 @ 03:00AM UTC``

VaultRaid final test is scheduled for this upcoming monday evening (tuesday morning for our east-of-atlantic pilots)! We will be running this test to make sure the event in its totality will run as expected, and to get feedback on ease of access and balancing concerns.

For those who have somehow missed my prior ramblings about this project, VaultRaid is an objective-based event, somewhat like a king-of-the-hill in design. There is a disabled transport that serves as the center of the objective (which can have a variable sized influence range), and your job is to "hack" the data off of the cargo it is carrying (referred to as the vault) by being within that valid range.

The software used to hack the data, however, is a little tempermental - you'll lose a chunk of whatever data you've collected if you jump out of the sector, and it will be lost if you die; naturally, whoever can be FIRST to collect the vault gets the biggest prize, so bring blasters as well as a nimble ship!

...or bring your trident and try to tank all the damage! Or bring NPCs to do the shooting for you! Unlike my TeamDX events, VaultRaid will have ***NO*** ship, weapon, or assistance restrictions! There are no teams (or, it'll be everyone versus whoever defends the transport, but that will be disabled for now), but backroom alliances are perfectly fine. The only proper restrictions are that NPCs cannot collect data, and that pilots in turrets cannot collect data; you must be actually piloting a ship to be a valid hacker ;)

If everything goes well, I will start hosting this in an official capacity, starting on the 30th. That might get pushed back if issues arise.

Pilots in a capital ship cannot gain points anymore, and pilots will lose only a quarter of the required score-to-win on death instead of all of their points. Hopefully this lets pilots have a chance at winning even if they die, as the time limit was a bit heavy-handed.

very interesting. Thanks Luxen! If people are in a group will the data survive the group if a pilot dies?
Jan 16, 2021 Luxen link
No, you cannot share your data progress between multiple people. While I mention "backroom alliances", note the data you collect is specifically yours and non-transferrable, tied to you by the shady software you are forced to use to hack into the vault...

...because, frankly, I can't make such a thing happen with the tools afforded to me, and it'd be pretty broken anyways. So no, groups don't affect your data status.

Final test did great! As such, this event will enter official and regular hosting. I will hold two matches each lasting 15 minutes normally, depending on activity.

Debate:
1) Should download progress on death be altered? Right now, you lose all progress on death. If it is adjusted, how much should be lost? For reference, you lose 1/4th of your score for leaving the sector, so it will be more than that.

2) Should capital ship pilots have nerfed or no download speeds? Should pilots using capital ships to repair have a cooldown period post-undock? To note, you gain a tick of progress every second normally.

anything else?

fair teams?
Jan 18, 2021 Luxen link
Greenwall, there are no enforced teams; I am completely unable to enforce any kind of FFA or team setup in Vault Raid. Beyond that, there is nothing I can do to fix your lack of active guild mates.

I think you are being coy, as you were able to enforce balanced teams in TeamDX. Vault Raid will be less successful if you can’t address this issue, which has nothing to do with your perception of VOID member activity. Perhaps while you consider this you also assess whether your condescending tone is appropriate for these forums, particularly in light of your position as a guide. I have faith in your abilities!

Luxen is not a guide.

My bad, thanks we all float. I guess I interpreted his discord moderator status as akin to in game guide. Nevertheless, no excuse to be a Richard!

I forgot about this. For some reason I thought it was tonight.

1) Since I didn't participate, I'll let others talk about the download speeds. But, if you punish dents too much, they wont be brought.

2) I like that there aren't teams. It's nice to have a free for all like this.

I think dent's provide enough of a tactical advantage to make them worth having even if they have NO download abilities at all. Even if then they can still provide reloads and repairs for fighters, fire support, and physical cover (got a MILLION armor, might as well use it).

The only downside I'd see is that the contest might just devolve into a dent hunting party, where some players would rather try and kill an enemy trident then collect whatever the reward is.

LNH... I don't see the downside to your downside...

Pilots in a capital ship cannot gain points anymore, and pilots will lose only a quarter of the required score-to-win on death (They still lose a quarter of their own score on jumpout) instead of all of their points. Hopefully this lets pilots have a chance at winning even if they die, as the time limit was a bit heavy-handed.
