Sounds like fun.
Racers shouldn't be able to dock in capital ships at all.
As I read current rules it sounds like I could fly in my dent through UIT space.
Hope I can make it.

Rolflor, whatever strategy you wish to use to complete the race is ok. Just make sure you leave your capital ship before entering grey space.

After some discussions with other pilots, it was decided that November 25th @ 22:30 would be the best time for this race.

Other dates and info of interest.

The second iteration of Moth Race Series will take place during 2018's free week.

The Champions race will take place during 2019's free week. The tentative prize list for the top three is something like this: 1st: EHA, 2nd: IBA. 3rd: 1000 sss. We will probably sprinkle in some levi drops as well as we see fit. Remember, to qualify for the Champions race, YOU MUST finish in the top two of any SWA Moth race. The Champion's race is open to all ships except the greyhound.

After reading this, I understand that as a competitor I will be a targeted racer… None-the-less, I am completely stoked to compete! :D
I look forward to a [SWA] event like this; Kuddos to [SWA] & Knauf!

Questions:
Are the moth drivers allowed to “fight back”, (drop mines on the competition perhaps; return fire on others )?
Can participants choose between racing or shooting racers, (or is the shooting part just a SWA activity)?

Now the bad news, I will be out of town on Sunday, 11/25/2018. If I miss that particular race, I promise to participate in future races. (I may even help SWA with contributions/rewards.)

I wish to encourage all our VO players to participate; traders (like me) should be capable in the art of evasion, and an event like this may sharpen those skills.

This is Galactica Actual.

Galactica,

You will be free to use any tactic to win the race as long as it fits within the limited rule set. Aggression against aggressors is highly welcomed and suggested.

Frankly because SWA is running this, we won't be shooting. Due to reasons and stuff. hehe

I do hope to see you at future events. As i mentioned above, we will be doing this as a monthly event, so there will be plenty of opportunities to take part.

Have a great week.

Results:

1st: Galactica Actual
2nd: Pando
3rd: Rogue81

Thanks to all the pirates for participating, and to all the racers. Without the racers, this would not be possible.

Galactica Actual and Pando took the grey space route in lite moths.

Next Month I am lifting the ban on Mk1 moths. The race will be open to all moths. I will tweak the rules a bit as well(time limit will be 35 minutes). If anyone has feedback, please post here. I want this race to be engaging for both racers and shooters.

Moth race AAR and thoughts:

What worked well: Allowing racers to take any route they wished I think worked well. Most the rats focused on B-11, which allowed a couple racers to sneak in through H-15. Theoretically a racer could have gone through serco/itani space, but that would have been time consuming and risky if a pirate was in Edras I2.

I think having the finish line being just entering G-11 worked fine. If docking had been a requirement, it would have been too hard imho. Edras is already a choke point. That said, maybe having an additional reward for docking would interesting?

What could be better: Putting an hour limit on it was too much. I have used Rogue81’s rough finishing time to reset the total race time. It will be 35 minutes for now on.
I admit, I didn’t have a good prize for the shooters. That is something I need to work on. What do you all think would be a good prize for the shooters?

What I wanted out of the race: I wanted more of a chess match than drag race. The race as it set up is definitely stacked against the racers. Moths are easy targets. I know many players cynically thought that this was just a fake event to get SWA moth kills. Frankly, I’m not offended by the notion because if I would have been thinking the same thing as a potential racer.

I made the ruleset limited, to allow racers to use almost any option to get to the finish line. If a racer had wanted to pay off all the pirates, that was fine. Or if they had paid a mercenary to kill all the pirates, that too would be ok by the rules. Or doing something like zerg rushing the finish line with all the racers jumping through to Edras at the same time. Interesting ideas like that.

As it was, someone paid a pirate for dent ride through some of UIT space, which is ok. I did put in place a rule that no one could be docked in a capital ship in grey space. So the farthest someone could get in a capship would have been Verasi O7 or Jallik E-15.

I made the rule that racers had to be homed in in Latos/Ukari so racers couldn’t just make save points along the way. Though what are your thoughts on that as a legitimate strategy going forward? Allow racers to home at different stations along the way so they don’t have to make up so much ground after getting killed. My negative thinking to this idea, is that someone could just rehome to dau/jallik making the strategy not fair to Serco racers.

Anyways, I will read through all your comments and make changes to the race so it will be better overall. The next race will take place sometime around free week, and probably a Sunday again. Most likely at 23:00.

Win lose or draw - everyone should be doing this race. Sure, a shooters goona shoot, but us moth drivers need a good set of evasion skills and look at the practice opportunity this provides. Its win/win for everyone.

If I am around for the next one, I am offering my services as a mercenary to any moth racers.

Shooters don't need a prize, it's a prize for us to have something to shoot at !

Maybe next time you could organise a mining competition in B-8 :) ?

Seriously though, I thought it was great also appreciate the Europe friendly time.
