Anyone else think that Neutral is a bad name for our nation? Makes most golds pretty apathetic to helping each other or even defending against flag caps. Maybe we should try something with a little more life to it. Any suggestions?

It fits into the dev's storyline. It is "Neutral Territories." Give the game time to fully flush out its RPG aspect.

Neutral does not mean you don't fight. Britan was neutral during the civil war, but they still had the mightiest navy in the world. Neutral just means you are not taking sides with respect to a particular conflict. The game story says that the Itani and Serco are at war. The NT are a loosly affiliated coalition of territories that banded together for the purposes of defense against both sides. The only reason people are apathetic towards anything is because a lot of our vets have been gone for some time and many of the newbies, though enthusiastic and dedicated, just don't have the cojones to take on pirates.

Attention: All current Itanis go to NT and all current NTs go to Itani!

Reason Why

The Itani's rarely come out to play in mass while all the NTs are roaming around. The Itani's center around Defense while the NTs are at war with the Sercos, I think you need to switch colors mates.

The only reason it seems like NT and serco are at war is because the Itanis rarely venture out of 4. Sercos have nobody else to kill, so they go for us. Besides, we trade a lot and the color Gold pwns blue.

We also don't get taken seriously a lot as a fighting force and I think that has something to do with the fact that we're supposedly "Neutral" even though we seem to be getting into fights plenty...

"We also don't get taken seriously a lot as a fighting force and I think that has something to do with the fact that we're supposedly "Neutral""
-Oh believe me when 3 or 4 of our vets get on we'll be taken seriously. In the 3.2 days Gold was the dominant nation.

Magus: Gold Nation's name came from the devs when 3.2 was released in the spring of 2003, as did the Itani and Serco names.

People have been suggesting that the national characters of Gold and Blue would fit better if they swapped places in the devs' story from the beginning. It made even more sense at the time because Blue was a sparsely populated nation of traders. Anyway, it's not a realistic expectation for everyone to switch en masse.

I do think that Gold is attracting a lot of "neutral" minded players these days because of the name. I'd transfer to one of the officially warring nations, but I'd miss my Gold comrades. I don't want to betray them and would feel just plain odd in another color. Hopefully the NT will have some sort of militia or small navy in the final game.

I know what you mean. Back when I was Sir Frog it would surprise me every time I hit x and saw a gold player come up.

I was kidding about changing nations mate, I just though the way the nations had really kind of switched roles was amusing and warrented a humours posting.

Anyway, the NTs are taken VERY SERIOUSLY when more than two or three of them rally, espicially when there are one or more vets in that group such as Arolte.

Also, I personally have a great respect for the NTs for having the gual to venture out and take us on, it's not exactly a nice sight to be looking down the buisness end of a Serco gun (trust me, Ive been there and I dont ever want to be there again!).

And trig, dont go nestalgic on me, Gold had it's day, then Serco, then Itani (breifly after reset) then S/NT, and now I think Serco again. The problem is, Gold isnt large but has a few diamonds in the rough. Serco doesnt have many (We are the smallest nation) but most of the people we have a able to hold their own, the Itani's aren't great pilots and have little honor, they win by swarming up into a large force, staying near their NPCDef bots, and then Hit&Fade attacks that never open up the main body to a hit. Had the Itani's used normal tactics, of standard run through keeping a series of runnign engagements, they'd have long ago been slaughtered by the truckload. The Itani's have merely adapted a more stealthy tactic to prevent their less skilled pilots from taking more harm then the standard Serco or NT pilot who is suprior but fights head-on.

Now I personnally came in 3.3 and missed what many have called the "Golden Age of Vendetta" so you'll have to excuse me for that and some of my less knowledgable pieces since most of my knowledge comes from piecing together what other pilots have told me.

And I think, Asp, that you should actively work towards organizing a Militia since no one else seems willing to step up and that you could use your considerable expierence and contacts to become a very great and probably very dangerous leader. I would, under certain conditions, perhaps help you with the construction as far as to give you some publicity on my website, commonly visted by ASW and SDF members, but...

PS: Sorry bout such a long post. I had a lot to say.

Accusing Itani of 'dishonorable' tactics is like whining about the American army during the revolution. The Brits thought we were a bunch of pansies, but look what ended up happening.

Here's my suggestion to you:
Find a counter strategy. There are ways of pulling those newbs out. They do not have your tactical experience, and as such, can be tricked into making mistakes.

By the way, by swarming up into a large force, do you mean they actually practice a limited amount of teamwork? God forbid!

"The Brits thought we were a bunch of pansies, but look what ended up happening."

-Yes, look. The French came in and saved our asses.
Jan 11, 2004 Pyroman_Ace link
The French's first and finest hour.

I didnt mean to imply nessicarily dishonorable tactics, but tactics that are frowned upon be other nations.

See this part of my post:

"The Itani's have merely adapted a more stealthy tactic to prevent their less skilled pilots from taking more harm then the standard Serco or NT pilot who is suprior but fights head-on."

I meant that they have little honor and must use Hit & Fades as they cant fight us head on. However, unlike the 'red-coats' we reds arent going to lose.

Actualy, for a while after the reset, gold WAS kinda neutral. Gold sides with both blue, and red. Yet neither red nor blue sides with gold. Red and blue are suppose to be at war with each other... But lately it seems like both nations just decide to pick on gold.

I think a lot of gold players start out trying to play the name, neutral. But after the rammers and pirates and greifers get to them... Assuming they stick around long enough to learn how to fight back... Most golds have given up on being "neutral".

Blues can't handle fighting head on? I find that amusing.

lol so these -sm- "were" sdf?
Jan 12, 2004 Pyroman_Ace link
-SM-s are a splinter from the SDF that is, from current intelligence, a faction with no "head" or leader. ex-SDF pilot 01 was demoted for "conduct unbecoming an SDF pilot" and was offered the oportunity to stay with the organization and work his way back up. His rank was dropped from Vice Admiral (XO) to Private. he then proceeded to quit the organization nearly causing a massive collapse. FingerOfGod, PaDrO, LENNY, and Impartial were also all SDFs and good friends of 01 in real life so they left the organization as well. 01, for his actions recieved a Dishonorable Discharge and the other 4 pilots all recieved Less Than Honorable Discharges

As of right now, the SDF is officially allied with the DSG to destroy what SMs we see as many view them as traitors and dishonored pilots. Many SDFs hold the SMs in contempt and kill them freely.

That is the SDF official report. Thats straight from the Commander and if you wish I beleive I have the IRC chat logs from that particulary conversation that 01, Horgrathi, myself, Archon, Padro, and apparently, Impartial (who was actually viewing the conversation at 01's house without actually being present in digital format)
