Backyard Battles
[TRI] is announcing a new event(kind of) called Backyard Battles! The rules will be quite similar to the rules of TeamDX. The differences between the two events will be more or less the scheduling and organization. This one will always be scheduled for a weekday, and we will not maintain an ongoing record of the event. Also, a posting of this event may not happen as these will be scheduled only 1-2 days in advance. As such, we will be advertising about them in game as soon as one is planned.
For the official ruleset I'll refer to Luxen's post: https://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/14/33726. One notable difference is that for this event, the prize of each round will be 1,000,000 credits for each survivor on the winning team.
So, to get it kicked off, we will host a Backyard Battles tomorrow, Wednesday, January 3 at 10:00PM CT(/time - Thursday, January 4 at 4:00AM GMT). Hope to see you all there!

Really, only 1,000,000? Since you are one of co-founders of TRI, it makes you look stingy as hell. I suspect you'll get more participants if you push it to something more reasonable like 10,000,000.
Yea, it's very simple. 1,000,000 credits for each survivor of each round is actually sustainable. 10,000,000 credits is not.
So this is an admission that you're not as rich as you look? Not that I care about your real wealth. Just very interesting.
Have you seen what I fly? I don't believe I look all that wealthy. It's actually interesting that you think I "look rich". It's like they always say, you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. ;)
Ignore JJ, he doesn't even play VO.
A million per survivor sounds pretty reasonable for a recurring event.
On average, about 15 players show up at a given event. Let's split them into three teams evenly, so 5 players each.
Each round there can only be one team winning, so you'd be spending 5mil per round.
If there are three rounds, you would only spend 15m for the whole event. If you extend it to 10 rounds, that's still not much - 50m. It doesn't take a mid-level player much effort to make 50m.
For someone of your status - the commander of a guild that makes money by selling trident parts worth hundreds of millions each, you have so so SO much more money than that, and you can EASILY afford to bump it up.
So why not increase the prize amount to entice more players to join, if getting more players to join is your goal?
Unless I'm mistaken and you happen to be a poorer than average commander who has no idea how to leverage his own guild to earn himself money, okay then.

There was a 50m prize pot for the Duel Wars event in addition to various other prizes amounting to 5m each, and there was still a lack of participants.
Its Nihiluss event, he gets to decide the prize money. If you object to it, then don't participate and hold your own separate event where the winners receive 10m each.

Also, nihilus has disabled the guild bank to prevent new pilots joining from having problems anout the guild using the credits they put in - sound dumb? Aye, but its been a problem on several occasions ive seen since i joined the game. They never seem to understand what that bank is for.
Also also, TRI's net profit is likely zero right now. I dunno about some of the pilots i see occasionally, but Nihilus and I have been busy elsewhere, mainly with events and general pvp.
Also also, its an event, get together and play by its rules just for the hell of it! Its an organised combat event, and the atendees tend to allready be combat-centric pilots, so why wouldn't you?

Yea, before you start knocking the prize too much, I'd suggest you attend it first. See if 1mil credits feels like its worth the effort put in for the experience you gain.
For most people in VO, its not about the bottom line, but more about how much fun they had making those credits. There is a certain built-in prize for those that enjoy team combat, which makes the 1mil credits lagniappe really.

I'm with JJ, y'all fuckin' scrubs.
Good event! -- I fail to see why there is any reason to respond to joylessjoker?
Who?
1M credits per survivor per round is plenty. The point of these events is (typically) to get a bunch of pilots together to have some fun. If you're looking at these events from a work/profit viewpoint, then IMO, yer doin' it wrong.
I think VOs history of events shows bigger pot != more particiants. For my BBFs, I made the intentional decision to have many smaller prizes (1-2M for 5-10 categories was the norm) rather than a few big ones. As the prize pot increased, the number of prize categories increase accordingly. I don't recall ever having fewer that a dozen participants for BBFs, and I don't think I ever had prize money greater than 2M go to any single participant.

Nihilus,
Was your intention to use this Role Play post to get pilot opinions and flesh it out until its ready to be posted to Community Projects or Events? Or just to say "Hey look out for me in-game for some more frequent team pickup games!" ?
I'd be willing to write up the in-game event advertisement that we could drop the day before that pilots will see when they log in and see in News. Could be a reusable advert with all the basic rules, times and such. You know I like to write wordy VO content.
If it's more pick-up and less planned-out, I still suggest having maybe a locked Events or Community Projects post that people can refer to each time someone hosts the event. (I'm also still trying to see the difference between TeamDX, but I know that TeamDX has been logistically difficult for us to host at times.)
I'd much rather see a fleshed-out, easy access, low-stakes pickup PvP fun than see a PvP tournament with four pilots and a grand prize of 999 million credits, seven Internal Bulkhead Assemblies, and a Teradon Kit just because someone wants to make it high stakes and cool.

Honestly my intentions were somewhat undefined in my first post. I'll try to clear some things up now though.
This event will be essentially a copy of TeamDX with some minor differences. First of all the prize will always be the same, which is 1 million credits to each survivor of the winning team of each round. The other difference is that we won't be keeping a record of stats, attendance, or anything like that. Unlike TeamDX and Nation War, which both have enumerations attached letting everyone which number event this is, this event will always just be Backyard Battles. I know it seems small, but if we are successful at expanding all the events that we are currently working on, then keeping the organization of them separate will become important, even if they seem like they are REALLY similar events. Hope that explains why a new event was created instead of just using TeamDX.
And although this event is rather fleshed out already, feedback is still greatly welcomed and appreciated(even negative feedback). Everyone has good ideas, and even if we don't use the suggestions in this particular event, a good idea might spark the creation of a whole new event.
Also, I will enter an official event submission every time we have this event. As such everyone will see it in the events section when they first log on.
Still, I will also have an in game advertisement about this. So, please do write something up and share it with me so I can just use that. I know it may come as big surprise, but I am not so good with words.
And really anytime anyone has an idea of how to reword or rename anything regarding an event please throw the idea out. If people hate the name or think the ad sounds dumb, I'd rather change those things early on instead of waiting until later when things have been more set in stone.
Hope this was a little less vague.

I had fun, even if I ran into some technical issues on my end. And yeah, while high stakes events are great, I do like events that have small prizes as well. Less stress and drama about whether or not it's perfectly fair, and it's a lot easier to roll with it when your game crashes just as the event begins if the prize you just missed out on isn't homongulous.
