NATION WAR #456

[TRI] would like to announce NATION WAR #456 taking place Sunday, December 17 at 7:00PM CST (Monday, December 18 at 1:00 GMT). It will be located somewhere in Sedina, so remember to prepare your ships ahead of time. This is very important this week as we as we will try something a little different. Instead of one round, we will do a best of 3. This will require that everyone participating do some planning in order to make it run smoothly. I am looking forward to seeing how this goes.

Basic Rules:
-Pilots will split into 3 teams (groups) according to their nation (see below for details on grey team)
-Only those who are on-time are allowed to participate (very bendable)
-There will be 3 rounds
-You may not start fighting until the host signals the start of the battle - this includes the 15ish minute period prior to the planned starting time
-At the start of each round, pilots will be told the sector for the next round. After being taken out report to next sector in a combat ready ship
-No running from the battle arena
-The last team standing wins
-Prize is only distributed to those on the winning team who survive and will be handed out after each round
-Have fun!

There will be no grey team to start, but if we have enough people we will definitely start one. Playing it by ear worked for us last week, and I don't see any major issues with having a floating team that can be used to balance things out.

As for the 3-round setup we have this week, any feedback on this is welcomed. It was something that we've been talking about, and finally are going to try out. I'm sure there's something we may have overlooked so if you have any ideas for how to make this run smoother feel free to toss em out.

Just a few "what-ifs" for you!

Because some fights can take a while, and we all know we have to leave to play the RL game every now and again, what happens if someone who shows up for the first fight drops out in the second?

Will pilots who show up after the start be able to join rounds 2/3 as back-ups?

If after 3 rounds, each team has won a single round each, will there be a 4th round or will this be considered a draw?

Only one of the questions that I can easily answer is the last. We will consider it an overall draw, but prizes will be given after each round.

As far as gaining and losing pilots in the middle of rounds, I'm sure we can figure it out on the fly. I figure each round may go a little differently if that ends up being the case. Could get a little crazy, but I think we'll be able to manage it. If you have any ideas for easily dealing with that scenario please suggest them.

By all means this is a work in progress and any feedback is welcomed. Even if the feedback is "this sucks, it will never work, it is a terrible idea", just tell me why you think that as well.

Ah, so basically not "best of", it is just 3 rounds. Fairynuff, I guess if you do it this way and the overall round win does not actually count for anything, you could actually just do it as 3 separate wars in 1 go and then if anyone misses the first, hey no biggie, another one in a bit.

Another week down and this one was a good one. This week we had 3 rounds in an effort to extend the fighting. It went down quite smoothly and I'm quite happy with how things turned out. I will definitely keep this format going.

Unfortunately, one downside is that I was not prepared to record the participants in each round, so I won't be posting a list of pilots. Sorry about that and I'll be sure to do so next week.

Having said that, red team wiped the board this week winning all 3 rounds. Each round the red team was stacked and full of proms. It was quite impressive and overwhelming. Congratulations to all the red team members.

We ended up having a grey team each round due to low numbers on the yellow and blue teams. This seemed to help bring some balance to fights and I think it made the fighting much more fun. Next week we will have a more concrete rule around balancing the teams out a bit.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to make the format better moving forward I'm all ears. I think we're moving in a good direction for expanding Nation War, but I know that you all have great ideas for improvements and I'd love to hear them.

I'd like to thank everyone for joining and making this week's Nation War a load of fun. I look forward to next week's event!
