Deneb Run #131
Vendetta-OnAir (VOA), is proud to bring you The Deneb Run this November 1st.
*** The TIME will be 3PM Eastern Standard Time, 12PM Pacific, 7PM Sunday GMT (Or 19:00 /time in game) ***
The race progress announcements will be announced on Channel 500
All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, exact Prize Amount is to be determined and depends on donations (Will be at least 10 Million Credits!). Some of it could be yours!
The rules are as follows:
1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) There is a maximum eight-racer limit (seven if there is only one MC), or four racers per group. This is to allow the MCs to actually be able to MC the race and keep track of all the racers. Spots are first-come, first-served, with a priority on those who post to this thread. The group sizes may be increased if the MCs can handle it and there is enough interest on a given event.
4) Contestants must be within 100m of the MC(s) before the start
5) No shooting before the race starts.
- Depending on the severity of the infraction, and at the host's (or hosts') discretion, violation of this rule can result in not only a disqualification for the current race, but also a ban from winning prize money as either a racer or an anti-racer in future Deneb Runs.
6) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
7) All weapons and ships allowed.
8) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (60% of Prize Pot - 6 Million Minimum)
9) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (30% of Prize Pot - 3 Million Minimum)
10) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (10% of Prize Pot - 1 Million Minimum)
12) Attempting to trigger a false start of the race is grounds for disqualification.
13) Money for killing other racers: Any pilot, racing or not, is eligible to earn money as follows:
Pre-condition #1: There must be at least 3 racers participating.
Pre-condition #2: Less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run.
If the above pre-conditions are met, up to half of the total available prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- Kills in the Odia M-14 sector are not eligible
- The most recent eligible kill earns the highest racer-kill prize money (3 mil, 2 mil, 1 mil, or 0)
- The 2nd most recent eligible kill earns the 2nd highest racer-kill prize money (2 mil, 1 mil, or 0)
- The 3rd most recent eligible kill earns the 3rd highest racer-kill prize money (1 mil or 0)
Unclaimed prize money (up to 50% of the total the prize payout) will be added to the next Run's pot.
Any guild or player is welcome to donate to the prize pot, and by doing so will earn mention during the event and in the results.
Racers must register ahead of time by either /msg TheLaZyDJ at least an hour before start or replying in the fourm thread in RP section.
Looking back through the forum I saw I hosted 2 in the past and labeled then 114 & 115, however, I found a 128 and then added my 2 to make this 131... Then I thought I had found one labeled after 128 so I really don't know where to place this, I'm just running with the 131 and hoping to pull it together long enough to keep that increment going.

I am participating in this event
I am also hosting Nation War at 20:30:00 on Sunday
Do you think this is enough time in between events?
Or do Deneb runs take longer than an hour and a half?

Should be ok I think,
I know you mentioned a RL commitment, but if you can do submit your events on the website. That way they get added to the calendar so it reaches more of the playerbase and then helps me plan ones around them.
I'll eventually try to host a few that are not mid-day Sunday... it just happens to be the easiest for me to commit to so it's where I am starting till I get back in the groove of things.

Thank you both for hosting these events! :) the races are at an impossible time for me, but there's a slim chance I could make it to the Team War.
Or do Deneb runs take longer than an hour and a half?
I think they used to take about 30 minutes.

The Deneb Run did end up starting 15 minutes after it's scheduled time, as RL interfered a bit with me being able to prepare on time. Turnout was very lackluster, and it didn't seem that many knew or understood what the event was at all. It really raises the question in my mind of how many people just think Vendetta Online is just an app on their phone/tablet. I do understand that turrets are huge problem in this event, perhaps I'll raise the question of what can be done in the future to make this event more accessible and fun for those in the future.

I tried to do a couple cool things with this video, that is too long and I doubt most would watch. First I tried to make a map that sort of showed visually where racers were, that went ok, can use some work.
Second, I tried to use a running timecode to help keep track of time, that thing is a POS. So just ignore it if you watch the video, I'm going to list accurate times below.
TheLaZyDJ - Was the only one to finish the race in a time of 29:20 claiming first prize of 44,286,002 credits.
Grizzly SpaceBear - Finished Second being killed by turrets after 17:37 claiming second prize of 22,143,000 credits.
Arlathis JoHaun - Finished third being killed by turrets after 8:27 claiming third prize of 7,381,000 credits.
Galanoth - Was killed by turrets after 7:20.
I participated mainly because of lack of participation and the fact that I am trying to generate a number of videos for Vendetta OnAir to help expose VO to more people in hopes that they join. In the end it felt like more of a mistake since I did not have to worry about turrets like the other contestants. After the other contestants were out I did try to complete the race in a timely fashion, albeit not nerve wrecking I must hit activate right on the dot pace. I also did my best to encourage others to kill me and claim first prize. For me, it's about getting people to participate and enjoy playing. So I apologize if anyone has hard feelings about how the event turned out in general. Do know that those credits will be used to seed future events. Since when I came back I was a very broke host due to my attempt at building a capship, leaving stations overloaded, and leaving the game for over a year and still paying station rent. I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around why that drained every last credit I had owned.

Nice of you to host this event, but you really need to set your expectations very low. Player hosted events are always hit or miss, primarily because of available players and secondarily because of limited / non-existent dev involvement and facilitation.
You kind of answered your own question about why people think turrets are a problem, and why the event stopped being run shortly after turrets were placed in nation space, all the other contestants were killed by turrets. This event will be great again someday when the player base is larger.
It was really fun though! Thanks LazyDj! Rar
Do the pirates even bother to compete anymore?
I had planned to show up to shoot at the racers, but then wasn't home all weekend. Maybe next time!
