Nation War Ideas Thread

Ish is being poopy so I'm posting this here instead.

Random highdeas that would make me play Nation War:

1) Create an addon to help determine who is on what team. This fixes the main problem of a grey team, allows pirates to compete for whoever they want, and allows people to use alts to fight for their team of choice (which is really needed because of the whole prom vs valk balance bullshit). This should also kill the Pirate Nation War.

2) No capships? The fuck? If a capship jumps into the sector it should be fair game. If 5 capships jump into the sector, still, fair game. If you don't have a capship on your team, maybe you should have fucking prepared.

Allowing capships no matter what adds several fun twists to NW. It obviously allows your team to run to try to prepare (which is risky), it gives your team a position to defend, makes positioning and engagements between teams more important, etc. It also allows noobs to compete in Nation War. They'd be utterly useless fighting in an EC, but if they can man a capship turrets? It adds incentives to actually recruiting new players for your NW team instead of being the same fucking group of people over and over. This also helps show noobs what the game really is, and could hopefully retain some players.

The only downside to this is for the teams that don't have capships. Fuck them. What is this, grade school? "If you bring gum, you have to bring enough for the class". I'm all for fair gameplay, but nothing about NW is fair. Your stats outside of NW clearly effect it (a noob can't join with a valk or skyprom), as do your items outside of NW (LENBs, hive gats, w/e). It should only extend that capships in your army's position should be fair game for NW.

I really think Tridents would make NW sooo much more enjoyable. The idea of having three or four well defined armies in the sector that have to carefully engage or attempt bombing runs on the other team. You can't just recklessly engage or you will start getting pelted by 4 firecracker missiles per trident. Imagine how much more complex this becomes if (note: if, not when! /me stabs devs) Tridents ever get shields! Instead of one 5 minute shitfest furball, you get one epic battle that could last 30-40+ minutes.

I have more ideas but I must ponder them a tad more before I post them up.

💩

1. It's hard enough to get a decent number of people to show up for the Nation War. It's harder to get them to be on time and know what the basic rules are. You think they're going to use an event-specific plugin?

In an ideal world, we'd have a strong event/mission system with server-side support that would then run client-side Lua during the event for everyone who participates. Such a system might also enforce the rules of the event. That's not even on the Soon(tm) list though.

2. I was actually hoping saying "no capships unless everyone brings one" would get everyone to bring one. That hasn't happened, so I'm open to trying something else on that point. A monthly event where capships are allowed/encouraged might be a good option. Maybe I just need to talk to capships owners about getting participation.

I'm not against capships, nor unfairness. I'm against un-fun events though, and one-capship Nation Wars of the past were less fun than no-capship Nation Wars.

I happen to enjoy fighting battles that are almost destined to lose... makes victory sweeter.

Imagine Trident Wars.
Everyone gets in a trident and they all fight to the death. Like 10 tridents facing off haha

That be awesome... if Tridents had some decent weaponry.

The stupid dent rule exists cause for 3 weeks i brought the victory and everyone else was handily annihilated and on the 4th week no one showed up to fight us.

Not my problem no one else felt like "trying" those other weeks

Some car racing series add weights to winning cars for the next race to keep the competition close. Close competition is more fun than one team being so dominant nobody else bothers showing up.

I'd love to have a three-Trident Nation War. We certainly have enough Trident owners. TGFT, RED, BR1? How about it?
