I think its time to be realistic.
There is absolutely no point in the current community trying to make this game a MMORPG as it stands, because it becomes an absolute travesty. For all these guilds, there is only one feeling that prevails among people- "You cant tell me what to do." So Defense Ships, Vipers, TGP Corp or whoever dont have a chance against the rampaging suicidal hordes that ALWAYS gather when somebody screams oppression.
Its either time to play this like an FPS or a MMORPG. At the moment, it is only an FPS. So all these topics on diplomats and new guilds are completely useless.
My two cents.

hey dave.. ever notice that in real life people revolt and become mobs when you try to tell them what to do? Look at prohibitation... that went REAL well for the US.
the problem is, the guilds dont have the forces to enforce what they say.

When the first man (or woman) crowned himself (or herself) king, I am willing to bet all his cavemen subject got pretty pissed about it too. After all, who the hell does this guy think he is? Telling us he knows what is good for us? But so it goes. Once a guild structure is in place the game will be much more MMORPG. We just need to be ready for when it comes out.
guilds just need to gain power so they can comand people. else the people will revolt and kill em all.
Actually, the point of TGP is to promote roleplaying in the Vendetta Test. The whole guild war thing is an extension of that idea. I honestly don't care what side people take as long as they take a side and roleplay it (and when I say roleplay it, I mean getting involved with the politics of the war, not just the battles. God gave humans brains as well as trigger fingers ;))
And Celkan, if you look again the insurance has been discontinued because of the impending reset.

so someone's paying others for their deaths. riiiiiight
I'll give you the current view of guilds (quite a fatalistic one):
You do what we say cuz we think we're more powerful. If you beat us, we're insignificant. However, if we're more powerful, you do what you say or you endlessly get griefed.
That's all a guild can do now. That's why I pulled all the DS pilots until the reset.

Isn't that how order is kept in the real world?
The government says: "Obey our laws or we will punish you." No man is more powerful than the government, but if a man, or group of men accumulate enough power, they take control. As evidenced by all the coups and revolutions in the world. It is how the world works, Ironic that a fantasy world makes it brutally clear.

is it ironic?
well...
first off:
«When the first man (or woman) crowned himself (or herself) king, I am willing to bet all his cavemen subject got pretty pissed about it too. After all, who the hell does this guy think he is? Telling us he knows what is good for us? But so it goes.»
uh... yes. a very much simplified version, that is. normally, leaders rise to power because of their superior (leader) skills... that goes for hunter/gatherer and autarkic/agrarian cultures.
it was never a "self-crowning". people need and want leadership (my own pov), the question is, what kind of leadership/government it should be.
secondly:

again... this is too simplified. in a society where the bigger part is happy, it is highly unlikely that changes will take place in the form of a military coup or revolution, the inertia of the masses is just too big.
tertium:
«Its either time to play this like an FPS or a MMORPG. At the moment, it is only an FPS. So all these topics on diplomats and new guilds are completely useless.»
yes. at the present time, it is pointless... not! it is useful when you already have an infrastructure of some sort on which to build as soon as it gets necessary so that you can maintain a guild.
because if a guild has a history later on, it might be able to keep its members and acquire new ones if necessary.
