Deneb Run #142

May 23, 2009 MSKanaka link
The Makchuga and the CDC are proud to bring you The Deneb Run this weekend.

*** The TIME will be 4PM Eastern Standard Time, 1PM Pacific, 9PM Saturday GMT (Or 20:00) ***

*** Please take note of the modified ship rule! ***

The race progress announcements will be announced on Channel 500

All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 12 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours!

Once again, the rules are:

1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) There is a maximum eight-racer limit (seven if there is only one MC), or four racers per group. This is to allow the MCs to actually be able to MC the race and keep track of all the racers. Spots are first-come, first-served, with a priority on those who post to this thread and confirm their registration ingame before registration closes. If you post on the forum and show up late, if the group is full, tough luck. As a reminder, registration closes fifteen minutes prior to race start. Please plan accordingly.
4) Contestants must be within 100m of the MC(s) before the start
5) No shooting before the race starts.
- Depending on the severity of the infraction, and at the host's (or hosts') discretion, violation of this rule can result in not only a disqualification for the current race, but also a ban from winning prize money as either a racer or an anti-racer in future Deneb Runs. (new rule extension)
6) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
7) All weapons and ships allowed, except those listed in #11.
8) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (6 million credits)
9) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (4 million credits)
10) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (2 million credits)
11) Valkyrie ships are not allowed.
12) Attempting to trigger a false start of the race is grounds for disqualification.
13) Money for killing other racers: Any pilot, racing or not, is eligible to earn money as follows:

Pre-condition #1: There must be at least 3 racers participating.
Pre-condition #2: Less than 3 racers complete The Deneb Run.
If the above pre-conditions are met, up to half of the total available prize money will be awarded to those who killed the racers as follows:
- Kills in the Odia M-14 sector are not eligible
- The most recent eligible kill earns the highest racer-kill prize money (3 mil, 2 mil, 1 mil, or 0)
- The 2nd most recent eligible kill earns the 2nd highest racer-kill prize money (2 mil, 1 mil, or 0)
- The 3rd most recent eligible kill earns the 3rd highest racer-kill prize money (1 mil or 0)

Unclaimed prize money (up to 50% of the total the prize payout) will be added to the next Run's pot.

Please reply to this thread if you intend to race.

A reminder on ingame registration/confirmation procedure: please do not assume that if you say on 100 that you want to race that you are registered. I ask people to send me a private message declaring their intent to race and their ship layout for the race so that it stands out so I don't miss it amongst all the Saturday afternoon spamfest on 100. If I see the private message, I will respond to you (either to say "sure, you're in" or to tell you that we don't have space), so if you do not get a response from me after sending a private message, please assume I missed your message and prod me again. If you posted to the forum declaring your intent to race, you will need to message me ingame before registration closes to confirm your spot. If you do not do this, your spot may be "given" to someone else. Don't assume that you can show up 2 minutes before race start and get an invite.

== The Racers ==
yodaofborg - Serco, unguilded. He's been racing on and off for a while, and participated heavily in the Greyhound testing phase.
Dameos - UIT, unguilded. This was his first regular race.
Gerty - UIT council member of PA. He's raced a few times before.
Veselio - UIT member of TGFT. This was his first race.

== The Results ==
Gerty | 37:13 | Orion Hornet Convoy Guardian, FC, no weapons.
Veselio | 38:40 | Warthog MkII, FC, no weapons.
Dameos | 39:47 | Warthog MkII, FC, 1x Railgun MkII, 1x Screamer Rocket Launcher.
yodaofborg | 41:01 | Warthog MkII, FC, no weapons.

== Observations ==
1. I'd like to congratulate yodaofborg for being the first person to participate in the run while KOS with either the Itani or the Serco and still manage to finish the race. He's currently KOS with the Serco, and entered Deneb with about 10% armor left on his Warthog. He could probably have finished in first place if he hadn't stopped in Deneb O-3 to repair or hit so many storms in Itani space.
2. Everyone hit a bunch of storms today, which resulted in the abnormally slow race times. Next time people will plot around a bit better, I'm sure!
3. Despite being allowed in the Deneb Run, nobody flew in a Greyhound today, instead opting for the cheaper Warthog MkII or the Orion Hornet.

I'm expecting to be around for another race next weekend, but just in case I'm not I'll poke Mick and Denji. Now that I'm out of school I want to get these back to being more regular. I apologize for the scatterbrained frequency they had during the school year; hopefully it won't be as bad this time. :(

EDIT: Whoops, missed that Dameos had left Hawk. Fixed.

I got Serco space down, my health was actually not reduced by turrets, one hit me and turned me about a bit which gave an Aerna Seeker time to slam into me. That took me to about 50%. What caused the most surprise was the Nemesis being in Geria, heh, I thought I was boned for sure.

Now I just have to be the first person to finish while both Serco and Itani KOS :D.

Note: rule 11 of today's race. No Valks or Greyhounds.

Aw crap. Did I miss that? Sorry. :(

Just fixed it so subsequent copypastas don't trip me up like that again... bleh. I did mention ingame a couple times that they were allowed, though... oh well.

I was trying my best to bone ya Yoda, but HACs are pretty stiff competition:)

Good race everyone, that was a fun one.
