How does having 50 PKs help with item/ship access (beyond the first rail gun, which is crap)?

They can can get the first pvp medal and if they do those pks using the free bus, they can get that other badge and the bus hunter variant.

also if they get one person with decent levels to give them the pk's they can up their combat to get better ships, I did that with some trials to try juggleing multiple ships on escort missions.
