Hello, Vendetta Online!

After much deliberation, the United Combatants guild has decided to sponsor the first ever dueling tournament in Vendetta. Since this is the first time we're doing this, we're still working out some kinks, but hopefully, with enough interest, this can become a regular event like Nation War or the Deneb Run. The rules are as follows (for now, but there may be changes, so keep checking this post for updates). Rules will be reannounced before start of combat on Sunday, December 9, 2007 at 0100 GMT.

1. All contestants must have a rating of at least 3/3/-/-/- by start of combat to participate.
2. To allow participation by both new and experienced players, all duels must be fought in Vulture MkI ships with a loadout of Neutron Blaster MkI's.
3. Duelists ay use a different loadout so long as both parties agree to it, however the ships and loadouts must still be identical (e.g. Tri-Flare Valk X-1s or even Behemoths with Plasma Devastators, if you really want, anything goes, but both duelists MUST agree).
4. Payment of 5000c entrance fee must be made to a UC representative prior to start of combat, December 9th, 2007 at 0100GMT. May make payment to Ute Vananna, Zoltan Szabo, or Gadek Soja.
5. There will be a cash prize of 10M credits to the winner. No runner-ups.
6. All contestants must be present in Sedina D-2 by 0130 GMT on December 9th, or their place is forfeit.
7. Each duel must be observed by UC-authorized personnel to ensure rules are followed and to confirm victory.
8. All contestants must sign up by Thursday, Dec 6th.
9. Brackets will be announced and posted on the forum by Friday, Dec 7th.
10. Spectators may observe in unarmed EC-class vessels.
11. All entrants will be given Ultra Charge power cells to equip before each duel.

That's all I can think of for now, so please reply if you'd like your name added to the list of contestants. You do not need to pay the entrance fee right away, so long as you get it to Gadek Soja, Zoltan Szabo, or Ute Vananna by 0100 GMT on Dec 9th.

I expect the actual duels to possibly require more than one day of combat. Beyond the first bracket, it may make more sense to have duelists agree to a set time and place for combat.

Comments and suggestions are welcome. Remember this is the first time we're doing anything like this, so we're still working out details. Hope to see you all there, and good hunting!

I, Smittens, "Champion of the MFA Tourneys" (aka the guy with the most titles) would like to sign up!

Tentatively. I may not be able to make it, but I will try hard :)

(Hint: I'll try harder if someone can tell me what time 2300 GMT is in Pacific Time :D)

It's 3:00pm PST ...

I'll probably take part barring any unforeseen issues.

Hey Gadek Soja, pull me off the list. Bad time for me. And I'm not qualified yet. :-)

I don't think it is wise to restrict setups.

irrevolute says:

We're restricting setups so that both noobs and experienced players can participate on an even footing.

Additionally, setups are only restricted by what the two duelists can agree on... so yeah, i suppose if you can't agree with someone else on what to use, then it would suck for you, but if you're willing to fight someone with an even matchup, then it's not so bad.

Do people generally have issues with fairness here?

If, say, A is practiced with flares and B is practiced with energy, then the fair thing is to let them both fight in their element. Maybe a fair compromise setup is obvious to other people but it isn't to me.

Plus, a rev c (1/2/-/-/-) & laws (-/-/-/-/-) can take down anything.

But, ultimately, I suppose, nothing is fair.

irrevolute says:

Perhaps it is more fair, but it is easier to judge on even matchups. But, no one is forcing anyone to enter.

If you're fine with the arrangement, the submit your name, if not, don't.

It's that simple.

Did you or did you not ask for input? Your hostility is unnecessary.

You deleted your posts :'(
Dec 02, 2007 irrevolute link
Yes i did, because i don't want to be drawn into a pointless argument. I realized that the posts i made did not add anything to what was already posted in the rules themselves.

Since you did repost my statements, everyone can see that nothing i said was hostile. I was simply re-explaining to you, since you obviously didn't take the time to read the reasoning behind the rules, and you took this to be hostile. Like i said, you don't have to enter the contest.

I don't understand why you keep checking this post if you have no interest in the tournament.

If you click on "Message Board" at the top of the page it says the primary rule of the forum, which is "Be Nice." You have not been, so i will not respond to any more of your posts on this same subject.

If anyone wishes to make any further suggestions, I will take them under consideration and discuss them with UC leadership and they may be instituted in the next tournament.

As i said though, the reasoning for the even matchups is so that players of all skills and levels can participate.

If you have any ADDITIONAL suggestions to make, please feel free to do so. However, this one has been noted and will be considered. There is no need to start an argument about it. Unless you just like fighting, in which case i suggest you log on to the game and shoot something.

That is all.

Man, what a defensive newb.

Could people please restrict their replies on this post to either sign ups or suggestions please?

I will try to make it, please add me to the Tentative List of Participants
Dec 02, 2007 Waldoze link
Well, I have a suggestion. The MFA-tourneys that Smitten referenced had a problem. They were poorly organized and administered. Having a list of participants and kind of a tentative schedule would help. Once the event starts allowing one schedule to become the final schedule so you know approximately when you're gonna fight and who. In this way, you don't have to sit there constantly wondering if you're next. I know there were a few other people annoyed by the general chaos associated with the MFA tourneys so giving one person the leadership role would also help. One person to listen to seems to make it easier to weed out the more inane comments.

Thanks for the comment, Waldoze.

I have recently added the list of participants to the top post and as far as leadership, I am pretty much the sole contact for this, although you can talk to Ute or Zolt about it and I'm sure they'll do their best to help out.

As far as scheduling goes, I'm actually changing that a little bit, since i realized i probably won't be home by 2300 GMT this coming Saturday.

Besides that, I am planning on releasing a more detailed schedule one we have the final, paid list of entrants.

Does that sound about right?

__EDIT__

Please see the changes to the first post for updates to the time.

Additionally, since there will be multiple brackets and such, duels may continue onto another day.

I asked a question in earnest and I hope you will answer it...

I thought I was disagreeing with the reasoning behind the rules. I thought the existence of newb accessible, combat effective ships, made rule #2 unneeded. I thought the diversity of styles made rule #3 unfair...

Of course, it's your gig and vult1 fights would be fun enough.

You assume too much. I'm interested in the tournament.
Dec 02, 2007 Waldoze link
On the leadership thing, my point was when the tournament begins. If you have 2 or 3 people trying to run things, it makes it difficult to get everyone to listen. My suggestion would be to say, this is the tournament leader, his word is god. If you choose to ignore his chat, you will be removed from the tourney.
