A Change of Scene
Peace. There was always something about it that was greatly admired by Lambin. The 19 year old Itani was trained in the same schools of meditation and self awareness as any other Itani citizen was. However, even with the Itani’s strong devotion to peace, there were still those who lived for war and battle. Lambin on the other hand could not even fathom a life of constant strife. Then his life was turned upside down. When Lambin had reached the age of 18, our young pilot’s parents shipped him off to the barracks of the Coalition of Itan. Most men ready for piloting could only dream of being accepted into what was considered the most elite division of Itani’s navy.
Lambin was slowly becoming one of the best in his class. He had no problems destroying the practice bots that he would often take on 8 at a time in his Corvus Vulturus, but when faced against a Serco pilot, he froze up. Here he was, sitting behind the control panel of one of the finest fighting machines in service, and he couldn’t make the kill. Immediately he input the proper headings into his Nav control and sped towards ITAN headquarters.
When Lambin reached Deneb 0-3, he docked his ship and entered the locker room, obviously upset about something.
“What’s a matter, bud?” Smittens asked.
“I cant do it anymore man, I just cant do it. This is not for me, this is not how I want to live.” Lambin replied.
“What do you mean? You’re doing fine..”
“Maybe so, but I’m done with this.” Said Lambin as he stormed to the office of the Coalitions leader, Commander Omega 0.
“… I can’t do it anymore, I won’t.” Lambin declared, sweating profusely and obviously rattled by the idea of resigning right to his commander’s face.
“My friend, please just relax. It is normal for young men like you to get jittery your first time on Border Patrol. Heck, my first time, I froze up for a few seconds when I jumped into Deneb B-10. Damn good thing those Serco pilots were too busy getting blown up by the IDV Sola or else I would have been in trouble.” Omega said as he laughed softly, obviously reminiscing his younger days.
Lambin, on the other hand, was not able to share the laugh.
“I’m sorry Omega. I feel like I have wasted your time, resources, and trust; but I just can’t do this.”
Obviously upset by the loss of what he felt to be an up and coming ace, Omega lowered his head and asked, “Well what do you plan on doing when you resign?”
“I haven’t decided yet. Maybe trade, settle down, start a family.” Lambin replied.
“Trade? Hmm, that may work for you, especially if you plan on raising a family.” Said Omega (much to Lambin’s surprise).
“So it’s settled? No hard feelings?” asked Lambin reassuringly.
“It’s settled if you want it to be settled. This is your call. And yes, you have my blessings and the blessings of ITAN. You may have some explaining to do to Lord Spidey and Smittens, but I’m sure they will respect your decision.” Omega replied.
Lambin immediately stood at attention, “It was an honor working with you, Sir.”
“The honor was all mine, Lambin.”
