Flag Raid #13

May 04, 2007 jexkerome link
The CDC is proud to announce its 13th Flag Raid (superstitious persons need not apply!) Rules are changing this time as well, so please read carefully!

System: Sedina
Scoring Station: Sedina V Hold, Sedina D-14
Target Sector: Anywhere from three to five raceway sectors
Flag Widget: 1cu of Random item that takes 3+ CUs of space
Time: Saturday May 5th @ 6PM eastern, 3PM Pacific, 22:00 GMT

How to play:

Participating pilots are split into two teams by the judges, depending on nationality, faction standings and number of available pilots. The game is played in a series of sorties, and the teams start docked in the station (this means every pilot).
Meanwhile, one judge will drop the Flag somewhere inside one of the raceways; both teams will be made aware of the nature of the Flag as well as the raceway that particular sortie will take place on. When everything is ready, the judge calls Go and the event begins. The objective is for each team to work together to grab the Flag and dock with it. The team that successfully does so earns a point; when the pilot with the flag docks he must call out he did so. To confirm that the pilot did indeed dock with the Flag, the pilot will undock on the Judge's call and drop the Flag. If the pilot was not in possession of the Flag his team receives a negative point. Verification of scoring ends the sortie, and the field is reset for the next (pilots dock or first leave the system to remove any temporal KOS, then return to dock). A different raceway will be chosen for each sortie.

Best three out of five wins the Raid.

Any ship, any weapon and most any tactic is allowed, as long as they don't break the following

Prohibitions:

1) No leaving the Sedina system, or docking with other stations other than Sedina V Hold. Jumping to other sectors within Sedina is allowed.
2) No attempting to imitate the Flag widget with a different item, at any point.
3) ANY firing around the station before or after ANY round (but not during) may count as disqualification. If a referee gets hit, or worse blown up, the offending pilot is out. This includes deploying mines between rounds, though deploying them during one is legal.

Failure to comply with the above prohibitions can result in loss of the match.

Prizes:

All participants get 200k, regardless of results. This is a prize to offset ship costs, since we know a lot of ships will be lost each sortie!

The members of the winning team can opt for either another 300,000 credits OR a rare(ish) items package, chosen from the following list:

Sniper's package - 4 Advanced Railguns and a Ultra Charge Battery
Miner's package - 2 Advanced Mineral Scanners and 4 High Density Beams
Positron Package - 4 Axia Accelerated Positron Blasters and 2 Mega Positron Blasters
Mech Package - 4 Repair Module Mk2s and a Ultra Charge Battery
Battery/Equipment Package - 2 Batteries of your choosing and 4 Weapons/Equipment items
Equipment/Weapons Package - 6 weapons/equipment items of your choice.

If a pilot on the winning team scored all three points, he is eligible to the MVP prize, consisting of a pair of Hive positrons OR a Hive Gatling turret, in addition to all other prizes.

Okay, regardless or RL getting in the way, interest in this event seems to wax and wane with the phases of the moon. We're going to try to get another one going tomorrow, but we'd like to hear your thoughts on this event, in order to make it more popular. Mainly:

1. Times. Usually we alternate with the Deneb Run, but we're open to moving to its own timeslot, or another day altogether. Friday seems like a good option, Sunday somewhat less so due to the NW.

2. Prizes. Are "rare" widgets just not that good, should we offer them differently, remove them altogether, or what?

So please discuss! For the moment, remember tomorrow's Raid would be held in the late Run slot, that is, 1:00AM GMT sunday.

If you had a devlon or three to give away, I'd probably play.

Emphasis on 'probably'.
