Special Flag Raid

Apr 28, 2007 jexkerome link
The CDC is proud to announce a special Flag Raid, (almost) immediately after the Deneb Run on saturday. The purpose of this Raid is to test the feasibility of other modes of play, and a lot is changing, so pay attention to the information below!

System: Sedina
Scoring Station: Sedina V Hold, Sedina D-14
Target Sector: Sedina F-5 (racetrack sector)
Flag Widget: 1cu of Random item that takes 3+ cus of space
Time: 6PM eastern, 3PM Pacifict, 22:00 GMT

How to play:

Participating pilots are split into two teams by the judges, depending on nationality, faction standings and amount of available pilots. The game is played in a series of sorties, and the teams start each one docked in the station (this means every pilot).
Meanwhile, the judge will drop the Flag at some point inside the raceway; when everything is ready, the judge calls Go and the event begins. The objective is for a team to work together to grab the Flag and dock successfully with it. The team that successfully does so earns a point; when the pilot with the flag docks he must call out he did so. To confirm that the pilot did indeed dock with the Flag, the pilot will undock on the Judge's call and drop the Flag. If the pilot was not in possession of the Flag his team receives a negative point. Verification of scoring ends the sortie, and the field is reset for the next (pilots dock or first leave the system to remove any temporal KOS, then return to dock).

For this test, and for the moment, the game is Instant Death, so whichever team docks with the Flag wins. This may change depending on how easy/hard/slow/fast this single sortie went.

Any ship and any weapon is allowed.

Prohibitions:

1) No leaving the Sedina system, or docking with other stations other than Sedina V Hold.
2) No attempting to imitate the Flag widget with a different item, at any point.
3) ANY firing around the station before or after ANY round (but not during) may count as disqualification. If a referee gets hit, or worse blown up, the offending pilot is out. This includes deploying mines between rounds, though deploying them during one is legal.

Prizes:

All participants get 100k, regardless of results.

The members of the winning team can opt for either another 100,000 credits OR a rare(ish) items package, chosen from the following list:

Sniper's package - 4 Advanced Railguns and a Ultra Charge Battery
Miner's package - 2 Advanced Mineral Scanners and 4 High Density Beams
Positron Package - 4 Axia Accelerated Positron Blasters and 2 Mega Positron Blasters
Mech Package - 4 Repair Module Mk2s and a Ultra Charge Battery
Battery/Equipment Package - 2 Batteries of your choosing and 4 Weapons/Equipment items
Equipment/Weapons Package - 6 weapons/equipment items of your choice.

The MVP Prize rule is not going to be in play for this trial run.

First try, immediately after the Run, we didn't have enough players for this event.

A couple of hours later enough people showed up for a nice game. Here's the skinny:

Team <(O.o)>
Niki
Omega 0
MR. Bean
Blue Streak

Team Flopple
Surbius Bondevo
Mick
Impavid
Tachikoma

Omega 0 got the first point for his team (to the eternal amazement of genka), but Mick came up next and tied the score. We moved the sortie from F-5 to H-5, and during this sortie it happened: Surbius was blown up while docking, and the Flag ended up inside the station! Unable to get at it, the Sortie was declared null and a new one began. This time it was Niki who docked with the Flag, putting Team <(O.o)> in the lead once more. Changing the sortie again, to E-5, for more variety, and this time Team Flopple obtained space superiority over the raceway, capturing the Flag and scoring with little trouble, courtesy of Impavid, sending the Raid into overtime. Trying to make it even more dramatic (or dramatic at all, depends on who you ask), Joyce moved the final sortie to the Maze... and she promptly got lost. She released the Flag and started the sortie, and when she finally got out she realized with chagrin the Flag was still pretty much at the entrance of the Maze. Nevertheless, fierce fighting ensued, and then... it happened again. Omega 0 docked with the Flag, but by mistake hit his Sell All shortcut! Unable to prove he had docked with the Flag, the point was forfeit and the sortie, once more, declared null. So far, two Flags have been lost in this game, something that had never happened. Going for a quick ending, as this was now the seventh sortie, Joyce changed the sortie to D-5, where this time around Team <(O.o)> took control of the raceway, but docking proved to be an entirely differen matter! The Flag exchanged hands at least three times around the docks before Niki docked with it to give his team the last point and victory over their opponents.

All in all, a much tighter, deadlier, and longer event, and much less a matter of simply running to and fro. Thoughts?

Awesome! Let's do it again next week!

Except next time Surb doesn't get to pick the team name!

...but docking proved to be an entirely differen matter! The Flag exchanged hands at least three times around the docks...

lies! :P
there was absolutely no fighting [edit: in d-14!] and no problem while docking in d-14 because the entire flopple team was still busy in D-5 or rebuying their ships.

Lies! Team Flopple promptly returned and attacked Bean and Niki as they were exiting the racetrack!
Then in the confusion Niki got away...
