Can we announce this at least the day before? Or select a time that is always the same? When it's 6 p.m. PST one week and announced only hours before for 2 PM PST the next, it's hard to participate.

Otherwise, thanks for your sponsorship.

Presenting the results of the 88th Deneb Run:

The Racers:

Toshiro - Serco pilot and member of SoR; he races occasionally.

Blue Streak - Itani pilot, member of the CDC and the best Deneb Racer in the history of the event.

Aleksey - Union pilot, member of VPR, he races from time to time.

MR. Bean - Itani pilot and Councilor of ITAN, newcomer to the circuit.

Mick - Union pilot, member of PA and one of the top three racers, back from a long hiatus.

silent~wave - Union pilot, another newcomer to the Run.

The Results:

Blue Streak | 27:30 | EC-107, FCPC, no weaponry
MR. Bean | 31:16 | Warthog MkII, FCPC, no weaponry
toshiro | DNF | Orion Convoy Guardian Hornet, FCPC, no weaponry
silent~wave | DNF | Hornet MkII, FCPC, no weaponry
Aleksey | DNF | Orion Convoy Guardian Hornet, FCPC, no weaponry
Mick | DNF | Vulture MkIII, FCPC, no weaponry

Observations:

1) Deadly race; only two pilots survived to dock. All kills were the work of two men: Roda Slane and Aramanth; Aramanth in particular killed three of them and nabbed the third place prize money. Proof that a large number of participants is no guarantee the hunters will go empty-handed.

2) Silent~wave died almost immediately at the Odia-Bractus wormhole; nevertheless, he took off again to finish the Run. He managed to dock after Blue Streak, in fact, but having died, he earns neither money nor fame, but some notoriety. The hunters ignored him the second time around (since he was already disqualified) so maybe that's part of the reason he "placed" so well.

3) Aleksey ran into a curious problem in Odia B-13, one jump away from second place. He somehow got incredible amounts of lag, ping of 4k+ according to him, and couldn't warp out. MR. Bean went right through to claim second, toshiro went to B-13 to find him, and in doing so led Aramanth to him, who promptly shot him down (earning that way the third place prize). All in all, we waited for Aleksey for about twelve minutes, so we need a ruling on how long to wait for a player in such situation before he's disqualified.

4) Lots of interesting happenings today, which is fine, since it was another birthday for the Deneb Run. BTW, it ran backwards.

Next week's Run is in the late slot, so see you in one week!

Oh, sorry Cranston. It used to be put up a day or two before but slowly it got put to the backburner. I'll try to put it up the night before from now on.

On the other hand, here's a simple tip. The schedule stays the same every other week. So one week 2PM PDT, next 6PM PDT, 2pm, 6pm, 2pm, 6pm... etc.

Ack, I still feel bad about having caused Aleksey's death.

It was my unlucky day... First I didn't get the EC-107 in time due to bugs, then it turned out it will be the race on unusual path (which I hardly now anything about), and then my VO ping went crazy (even though it was OK for the rest of internet)

*Sigh* I was out of town. Sounds like it was a fun run. With such heavy pirating, congrats to the two survivors! And congrats to pirates, too. They add thrill, and it's good.

Aleksey: Sounds like you experienced a very brief packet loss or routing problem. Happens on occasion, and only at the worst possible times (Like the Deneb Run, or when an angry swarm of bots is chasing you through a storm). It almost seems like the server gets some packets very late or out of order, and assumes that your computer has traveled into the future, because it seems to ignore nearly everything from your client until it decides that it has "caught up" with you (or maybe it's the other way around). My theory could be way off, and I suspect there is little that can be done about it anyway, but the symptoms are: Ping appears to jump into the thousands and higher, controls get locked, chat doesn't work properly (error messages that say things like "You can't send that type of message for another x seconds").

Usually logging out and back in will fix things. The faster you do that, the less likely you are to get blown up or drift into a rock, since your ship stays on its last course from when the problem started, and won't disappear from the sector until the server times out your original connection.
