Serco Combat Flight Training

Mar 09, 2007 Ghost link
Yeah, it can be frusturating playing a Serco. Outnumbered all the time and having your best ship be a big hole in your pocket.

But you CAN win. You CAN survive.

With a little know-how and some practice, you'll be giving those smurfs a need to use their speed.

Starting this Sunday the 11th, I'll be holding Serco training sessions right after the nation war. Learn:

-Basic combat tactics.
-What not to do.
-How to counter your enemy's ship.
-How to counter your enemy's loadout.
-Tips and tricks for hitting your target and not getting hit yourself.
-Using your ship's strengths to their fullest potential.
-Using your target's weaknesses.

More in depth classes will follow consisting of:

-Advanced light fighter combat.
-Prom grouping tactics.
-Advanced group tactics.
-Weapon specialization.
-Loading your ship to best compliment your group.

Remember, the fighting is only 50% of the battle. Choosing the right ship and weapons as well as employing good tactics make up the other half. Even if you're not the greatest shot in the world, you can still be effective if you know your stuff.

So come one, come all, and start turning the tables on those who outnumber you.

Arg, I don't have the time to come. Anyway, I hope lots of my Serco comrades show up.

Ghost: make sure the server you use runs the Speex codec, otherwise the Mac-using Serco won't be able to participate.

If all else fails and my server doesn't work, I may ask SCAR for temporary use of their server.

Those sf9 guys have a TeamSpeex server. (You know, Antirelic, Mean Jean and the gang of Serco that came over from that other game) Hell they even let ME on it.

Unfortunately, SCAR's server is down, since the man who was maintaining it left SCAR, and we can only assume is using it for something else now. I'd like to get us another Server set up, but first priority is relocating the SCAR forums and getting phpBB running on the webserver. Hopefully I can look into upgrading my hosting package and getting a dedicated server for everything in the same domain.

If in need of a server, we could always set up a temp channel on any public server with Speex.

I'll be on for it and should be able to contribute in any event. I narrowly dodged getting called in to work on my day off tomorrow.

Additionally, I plan to host similar training events for SCAR most Fridays, from around 4 PM to 10 PM forum time. My schedule is pretty sketchy though, so I may not be able to do it with complete regularity. Anyone not able to make it to the Sunday afternoon meets can try for Fridays.

The Serco ARE the underdogs right now people. Help them rebel. They have the potential. They just need the manpower. Please...

What time is that?

Okay, the server is up as of this moment. Try connecting to it using the instructions from the earlier post. If it doesn't work, we'll figure something out in-game after the nation war.

Edit: okay, IP address fixed, try it now.

The first combat training session was a success. Thanks to all the pilots who showed up, new and old. It may have been a little boring for some today because we were covering the basics, but I'll be holding another session after next week's nation war and we'll cover some more advanced tactics and strategies. Thanks for showing up. Please try to download teamspeak if you can for next weeks session. It makes things move a lot quicker.

Regarding the Teamspeex codec:

The TS server now comes with it built-in without the server owner having to do a thing. It is the person DLing the client who must make sure to DL Teamspeex if he's on a Mac.

Ok everyone, Same time again this week, and we'll be using the Seattle T3 Server at 206.63.81.4:8767
The channel is: Vendetta :: Serco
The Password is: fightwithhonor

People wishing to participate, please download and install Teamspeak if possible, as it makes things much easier for those of us instructing. Microphone is not required - only speakers.
