Asteroid 1, n!nj@ 0

Jan 27, 2007 n!nj@ link
It was a slow night for teh n!nj@, he was cleaning up some unrats in gray space when he jumped out to repair and got warped not 5 meters behind an asteroid... The fight did not go so well for n!nj@, thus he has felt the pain of death for the first time. As he had vowed to do, n!nj@ has revealed his secret identity to asteroid that got a PK against him. I only hope that rock is as good at keeping secrets as me =)

I do not understand how all you pilots go through this several times a day, I feel like I should go jump off a cliff or something =( I cannot stop God from placing me in harms way, and understand that things like freak warp accidents happen from time to time... Thus I may keep the account for now, though I feel shamed and should probably restart it.

Has this warp-into-roid and die event ever happen to anyone else?

I've smacked many a 'roid, often when coming out of jumps. One could call it a hobby of mine, though such would require a sick sense of humor. I don't recall losing the last of my hull during such an episode (not even the time that I crashed in one side of an Itani station and out the other, relatively unscathed), but I surely cannot say for certain. I'd be careful about the gloating from now on if I were you; this might be the galaxy's way of teaching you some humility.

Never happened. I've warped straight for them, but always seem to strafe or brake in time to avoid any actual damage.

The community calls this roidwarping, and is deadly in around 1 in a 100 happenstances. Joyce has died to it about five times in her two-year-plus career. I cannot remember what she was flying those times, though.

Roidwarping happens because when you warp in you're randomly positioned somewhere within the 1000m radius of a wormhole area, and in some places that puts you smack in front of a roid. Far more dangerous is when you roidwarp in a storm, on a full moth, with Guardians at close range. You usually don't have the time to recover from such a crash.

Oddly, in all the time I've played so far, I have never once died from warping into close or closest proximity of a roid. My (biased) suspicion is that this only happens to people who do not fly fighter craft, but if the n!nj@ was cleaning up unrats, my suspicions are for naught.

Maybe people who crash into roids just fall asleep at the helm. I don't know.

Hrm, I've never died from roidwarping, but, it seems like you encountered one of the famed "Bushido 'Roids". Who lurk in the path of unwary pilots, especially those with large egos.

Nah, if it was ego based I'd have roidwarped to my doom by now.

And Tumble would never be able to finish a jump.

I've roidwarped quite a few times in my 5 months here. But only 2 or 3 of these were actually fatal and these were a while ago so I thought it had been fixed. Usually you warp far enough away that you regain control and can dodge the rock if you aren't in a full moth, but very occasionally you'll warp in so close that you hit the roid before you even regain control of your ship. I'm guessing that the instant death is related to what happens if you hit a station antenna at a bad angle ( http://vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/2/15522 ).

I'm curious n!nj@, what was your armor at before you jumped into the roid? And why are you so worried about dieing? There is no penalty for dieing in vo, I'm up to almost 500 deaths, and regularly use /explode warp to do long distance trade runs.

To whom it may concern:

n!nj@ is a blatant runner. He turned tail and jumped when his hull reached 25%. Do not fly halfway across the universe to fight him like I did. Even organized the meeting in 100. You will be sorely disappointed.

Dude, if I got pwn3d by Everson, B... I'd run away and hide in shame, too.

ooc: Dammit Lecter.. I miss you already! That is really unintentional! It seems I need my fix of utterly malicious commentary.. You and I should really have a drink sometime, being neighbors and all.
