The Race
--------
Quote of the night: "watch b8 trap for us" - LeberMac

In a return to its roots, The Deneb Run #16 was run by Martin, who graciously took over when it became clear that Screwball would not be available.

The race started normally enough, with the pilots lined up just outside the 3000m reach of the gravity well around Corvus Hold. With their courses laid in, and each pilot anticipating the sweet taste of victory, not to mention the drinks at the Makchuga Bar and Tavern, Martin fired the starting guns. Almost immediately, a series of bright white vortexes and blue toroids of light illuminated the area as the pilots were flung through time and space.

Soon after, the position reports from the pilots began appearing on the race host's comm system. Unlike last week's race, all racers successfully plotted a clockwise course around the universe, and they were now racing toward the wormhole to Sedina.

As they counted down the distance to the wormhole, an interesting conversation started among the racers. Apparently, tumblemonster had been engaged by a group of hostile ships at the wormhole from Sedina to Latos. While not unusal by itself, according to tumblemonster, these hostiles were out to stop the racers!

The racers all entered Sedina within a few seconds of each other. LeberMac held a slight lead over Harpo, MonkofAkan, and Dragon of Fire. Soon, however, they were separated as MonkofAkan, Harpo, and Dragon of Fire sailed into the exit wormhole to take the lead, while LeberMac got caught in an Ion Storm.

Soon, the racers found themselves being assaulted by SpaceHunter, Ayn Eziert, and Kites in a pair of Corvus Vulturis light fighters with Neutron 2's and a Maurauder of unreported configuration. MonkofAkan and Dragon of Fire were able to escape into Latos, while Harpo did not survive the withering fire as his ship slowed to a crawl while attempting to warp. Soon thereafter, LeberMac also tasted vacuum as he met the same fate as Harpo.

With two pilots remaining, MonkofAkan soon emerged as the clear leader, with about a 30 second lead over Dragon of Fire going through Latos.

As they passed through Ukari and into Initros, MonkofAkan had widened his lead to almost 50 seconds. Both racers passed through Pyronis to get to Dantia, with MonkofAkan maintaining the same lead. As they passed through Sol II, Dragon of Fire hit an Ion Storm, further solidifying MonkofAkan's lead.

MonkofAkan passed through Betheshee and had just entered Geira Rutilus when Dragon of Fire finally emerged in Betheshee. MonkofAkan was able to extend his lead to about 1 system + 30 seconds as they passed through Deneb, Eo, Metana, Setalli Shinas, and into Itan.

In Itan, MonkofAkan made a navigational error that left him with a 10k sprint to the exit wormhole. This was not enough for Dragon of Fire to catch up, but by the time MonkofAkan entered Pherona and Dragon of Fire entered Itan, the gap was about 10 seconds less.

Dragon of Fire managed to further shrink the gap to about 60 seconds as he passed through Itan, while MonkofAkan ran into 2 ion storms in Pherona and had to make another 10k sprint to the exit wormhole.

Dragon of Fire skillfully avoided meeting the same fate in Pherona, and as he passed through Artana Aquilus and entered Divinia, he was now only 40 seconds behind MonkofAkan. Unfortunately, it was now Dragon of Fire's turn to encounter storms and he got delayed passing through Divinia.

MonkofAkan, now about 1 jump ahead, entered Edras about 40 seconds ahead of Dragon of Fire. Dragon of Fire encountered another ion storm passing through Edras, and the gap widened again to about 60 seconds. As they passed through Pelatus and Bractus, MonkofAkan widened the lead by another 20 seconds.

MonkofAkan, who had held a clear lead ever since Latos, successfully docked at Corvus Hold to claim first place, and Dragon of Fire arrived a little while later to claim second place.

On behalf of TGFT and EnB, congratulations to all the racers, and thanks to the race fans for tuning in. Special thanks also go out to Martin for hosting the race this week!

The Stats
---------
MonkofAkan | 32:16 | Valk Veng, unknown batt & weaps
Dragon of Fire | 33:40 | IDF Valk, unknown batt & weaps

Interesting observations:

1) This is the first Deneb Run in which less than 3 pilots have finished.

The race for me was short. Very short.

I made it to Sedina B-8 right behind Harpo in 3rd place I think, and as I warped I was jumpkilled by the combination of SpaceHunter, Ayn, and Kalki (or was it Kites? I get 'em mixed up, for several reasons...)
I was 100% as I warped. Heh. Oh well. It was time for a new model racer anyways.

I was first to the sedina/latos WH I believe, but unfortunately Kites was close to my stern and hammered me good. I was at 100% but was taken out by that one ace.
