TGFT and EnB will again be hosting the Deneb Run this weekend at 1 AM GMT Sunday. Please check /time if you are confused about GMT.
All citizens are welcome to race, there is no entrance fee, and 4 Million credits in prizes are available. Some of it could be yours, but only if you race!
Once again, the rules are:
1) Racers must race from Odia M14 through Deneb heading clockwise back to Odia M14.
2) Race starts in Odia M14 near the station.
3) Contestants must be within 100m of me before the start
4) No shooting before I start the race.
5) You die and you're out (so no /exploding)
6) All weapons and ships allowed.
7) First person to get back and dock at Odia M14 wins the first prize. (2 million credits)
8) Second person back gets 2nd place prize (1.2 million credits)
9) Third person back gets 3rd place prize (800k credits)
Obviously, a Fast Charge battery and decent ship is recommended.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I'll be able to be there, but if I can then I'm in for sure. I've been planning on making my return to the deneb run sooner or later. I will beat my time!!!

Announcing the results of The Deneb Run #15, sponsored by TGFT and EnB.
It was a full race again as seven pilots lined up at the starting position outside Corvus Hold this week.

LeberMac: Itani, council member of the Itani Alliance, long time veteran of The Deneb Run, he won last week's race with a very impressive time, sponsored this week by HoverBoy Recliners from TGFT, and also sponsored by Cerberes Defense Council.
MonkofAkan: Itani, member of the Cerberes Defense Council, also a seasoned veteran and former winner of The Deneb Run, and host of the Corporate Sectors Run.
Pilot 13: UIT, council member of Cerberes Defense Council, new to racing in The Deneb Run.
Bloodthirst: Itani, member of the Cerberes Defense Council, also new to racing in The Deneb Run.
Gavan: UIT, well known denizen of gray space and occasional racer, he last raced in The Deneb Run #8, which he won.

Part I - Like a Bat Out of Hell
As the racers warped out of Corvus Hold, one thing immediately became clear. Six of the seven pilots soon found themselves racing for the wormhole to Sedina. The other found himself headed toward Bractus.
After an inauspicious start, Pilot 13 decided that food was the answer, and promptly returned to Corvus Hold to eat dinner at the Makchuga Bar and Tavern.
Meanwhile, MonkofAkan and Harpo were first into Sedina, closely followed Xeelee and Lebermac. Gavan and bloodthirst did not report their positions immediately, but they seem to have been close behind.
LeberMac entered Latos neck and neck with Xeelee and Harpo, and only seconds ahead of MonkofAkan. Shortly thereafter, Gavan entered Latos, followed by bloodthirst a few seconds after him.
As the racers continued to jockey for the lead, it was Xeelee that emerged first into Ukari, followed by LeberMac, MonkofAkan and Harpo in very quick succession. Bloodthirst was about 30 seconds off the lead at this point, and Gavan's position was not immediately reported, but he was somewhere in the vicinity of bloodthirst.
Part II - To Initros and Beyond
LeberMac retook the lead heading into Initros, with MonkofAkan and Harpo not far behind. Also not far behind were the Serco Race Escorts, who launched as soon as they saw what could have been easily mistaken for a small Itani invasion. Xeelee seems to have been in 4th at this point, but did not report his position. Bloodthirst was next, about 40 seconds off the lead, with Gavan about 15 seconds behind him. While heading through Initros, Gavan confirmed that his navigation computer was not working as quickly as he wished (high ping), and thus he was suffering from longer than normal jump times.
As the racers reached the far side of Initros, their paths diverged. MonkofAkan was the first to warp out, heading into Pyronis, while LeberMac headed into Rhamus about 20 seconds later. Harpo warped into Rhamus about 15 seconds after LeberMac.
Gavan entered Pyronis a little later, while bloodthirst seems to have passed Xeelee in the process of warping into Rhamus.
While the last three pilots were still in Initros, LeberMac emerged first into Dantia, MonkofAkan a few seconds later, and Harpo about 30 seconds after LeberMac. According to MonkofAkan, LeberMac had about a 6000m lead heading for the wormhole to Sol II.
Just as LeberMac was entering Sol II, bloodthirst entered Dantia from Rhamus, and a few seconds later Gavan entered Dantia from Pyronis. MonkofAkan entered Sol II about 25 seconds after LeberMac, and Harpo entered in third about 15 seconds later. Xeelee entered Sol II about a minute after LeberMac. LeberMac soon reported that he had run into a storm in Sol II, which allowed MonkofAkan to retake the lead. Shortly thereafter, Harpo and Bloodthirst ran into the same storm, and Gavan was just entering Sol II.
MonkofAkan entered Betheshee a few seconds ahead of LeberMac, with Harpo about 15 seconds later. Xeelee must have missed the storm in Sol II, because now he was only 30 seconds behind the leader. Gavan, who also detoured around the storm after LeberMac's warning, entered Betheshee about 1:30 behind the leader and about 30 second ahead of bloodthirst.
MonkofAkan held onto his slim lead over LeberMac going into Geira Rutilus, while Harpo continued gaining on the two and was now only 20 seconds behind the leader. Perhaps embarrassed at allowing the first group of Race Escorts to be outrun, the Serco government decided to launch a new squadron of escorts to make sure the racers all found their way out of Serco space. Xeelee was next into Geira Rutilus, followed by Gavan, then bloodthirst.
Part III - The Wild Blue Yonder
LeberMac and MonkofAkan entered Deneb neck and neck. Harpo continued to pursue them in 3rd place about 30 seconds back, while Xeelee in 4th was about 1:20 back. Bloodthirst, at around 2:00 back, retook 5th position from Gavan, who was about 2:30 back.
To put these times into perspective, MonkofAkan and LeberMac were a full 3 systems ahead in Metana as Gavan was entering Deneb. During that time, MonkofAkan gained around a 10 second lead on LeberMac, and Xeelee somehow caught and passed Harpo to take over 3rd place, but was still about 40 seconds behind the leaders.
As they headed through Setalli Shinas, MonkofAkan ran into a series of unfortunate events, first hitting an ion storm, and then being so excited about the prospect of seeing the Itani homeworld that he forgot to actually press the warp button, and he sailed right past the wormhole before he realized his error. This mistake cost him dearly, and left Xeelee in 2nd place. Further back, Harpo maintained his 4th place position, while bloodthirst's top of the line Orion Hornet continued to outpace Gavan's top of the line IDF Valkyrie.
For those of you who have followed previous Deneb Run races, you may have noticed that there is something about Itani space that always seems to take what you think is going to happen and turn it on it's head. This week's race was no exception.
LeberMac entered Itan first, with all the glory of being solidly in first place, while his nearest competitor, Xeelee, was a distant 40 seconds back, and the former leader, MonkofAkan, was now about 60 seconds back. If he had checked his maps, though, LeberMac might have noticed that they were recorded by one Rod Serling, because LeberMac was about to enter a special place, known as the Ion Zone. It is a dimension not of speed, or of easy warping, but a place where pilots go when the universe decides that they need to slow down, reflect on life, and count to 6000... repeatedly. That's right, LeberMac proceeded to plow through not 1, not 2, not 3, but 4 consecutive ion storms while in Itan.
Xeelee also managed to plow into many of these same storms in Itan, while MonkofAkan, having learned his lesson in the previous system, took the cautious route and avoided the storms. By the time it was all over, MonkofAkan was back in 1st place, Harpo had taken 2nd, LeberMac was now back in 3rd, Xeelee was in 4th, and bloodthirst and Gavan were still stuck in back, but the back of the pack was now much closer to the front.
MonkofAkan and Harpo further solidified their gains as LeberMac and Xeelee ran into an additional storm in Pherona.
Just when it looked like things couldn't get any worse for LeberMac, he noticed that he had absent-mindedly consumed all of his Tequila, and he had none left in reserve to give his ship a much needed boost. Resentfully, his ship then found yet another ion storm in Divinia. This might have been good news for bloodthirst, except that he soon encountered the exact same storm.
The universe, sensing that it had already caused enough chaos for one race, then decided to lay low and allow the racers to continue the remainder of their journey through Itani space uneventfully.
Part IV - From Out Of The Blue
MonkofAkan entered Edras solidly in 1st place. Harpo, was 40 seconds (1 system) back in 2nd place. LeberMac, now in 3rd, was now almost 2 minutes (2 systems) behind the leader. Bloodthirst was about 2:15 back, and Gavan was about 2:30 back.
Gavan, perhaps homesick for his beloved gray space, decided to drop out of the race and hit the pubs as soon as he reached Edras, thus leaving the race to the Itani for the taking.
In anticipation of his victory, MonkofAkan received the traditional gray space welcome from Zoras Ock, Xet, Iongar, and Tumblemonster as he passed through Pelatus, then Bractus, then Odia. Fortunately for MonkofAkan, he survived the welcoming ceremony and docked at Corvus Hold to take 1st place.
Harpo, LeberMac, Xeelee, and bloodthirst also received a warm gray space welcome and survived the welcoming committee to dock at Corvus Hold.

Frankly, I think the uc battery is a waste of time. Literally.
It adds 1 second to every wormhole jump, guaranteed. The only place it might come in handy (aside from combat) is for those few really long sprints to a wormhole.

Indeed, I used the UC Batt because I'm trying something different. On an infiniboost ship, the FC batt is definitely the way to go.
However, the thrust-to-weight ratio of the IDF Valk coupled with 10 more seconds of burn at 240 m/s with the Ultra-Charge battery really helps for the long runs, like the initial jump from Odia to Sedina, or the run to the Sol II WH. As long as you know your ship and can lay off the turbo at the exact right time, the UC Batt is only marginally worse than the FC. Drifting to the WH under normal power and letting your battery recharge, warping at the same instant your battery reaches full charge is the trick. My typical plot-straight-thru strategy favors this approach as well. However...
... The 4 ion storms in Itan really did me in. (FOUR!!!) They were all short runs, somewhere around 5K to 6K, and I had to wait the extra 5 seconds or so for the UC batt to recharge. So it's great for long runs but it really sucks for the multiple-hops.
In the interest of fairness and probably also the interest of me winning more often, I'll drop down to the FC Batt for the next race. Here's an interesting statistic: let's also record the racer's pings after the race.

Amen on the timing thing. That's the real trick when flying something that isn't infiniboost.

My ping is usually around 66 and I never placed outside the top 3 in the four times I raced in The Deneb Run.
