Sir? Good, you're awake.
That's what I heard, but I saw nothing... and I felt nothing.
2 days before:
I had come down from patrolling the border to Itani held Deneb, and been offered a part in a research project for improvement of cyborg technologies. Naturally, I went along with it. It's not like I had anything to lose... right?
They brought me in, and asked if I knew what I was here for. I replied, "Yes, I'm here for research for the betterment of Serco everywhere."
"Very good, come with me."
We proceeded into a building unlike any I had ever seen, and we went down a long elevator shaft, a very long elevator shaft. At the bottom, I was greeted by a red glow... and walked through it...
Now:
I'm on a table, synthsteel if my tactile sensors are correct. I seem to be missing my enhancements... wait... they must be upgrading or replacing them.
"Sir?"
I try to respond... but I can't... I can't move my mouth... and then it hits me. I haven't been breathing... the rhythymic motion that I normally took for granted wasn't there. Why am I still alive?
"Sir?" she repeats.
I feebly try to move an arm...
"Okay, something has gone a bit wrong... it seems like all your systems soldered themselves together... the upgrading process caused your body to overheat. Right now, you're in a gel solution, that's why it feels so cool, it's the only way we could keep you alive until we have replacements ready."
[Great] I thought... [Just Great... everything I have done to improve myself up until now has been a waste. I've lost my subroutines... I'll have to rebuild everything from scratch]
[God... if only I had taken precautions against overheating before... I never realized that not optimizing my cooling systems would be a problem. I guess it's just a lesson for next time, if I ever get out of here.]

OOC: The computer I play on... a 4-5 year old Titanium G4 powerbook... appears to have died. I don't know what the problem is... but this loss is saddening to me. I can't really play on the Tower that I have because it's a shared computer and my parents don't approve of gaming... etc.
I'll lurk on the forums for a while to come, you just won't see me in game for a while.

To move forward, you must backup..
Hope everything comes out OK. Sorry about the Powerbook. :(
On the bright side, I hear they are selling refurb iMac G5's for ultra-cheap on the secondary market. Prices around $800. That's like 40-60% off or so...

Zoras woke up. This time, he wasn't in the gel solution, and he could feel all of his implants... and a few new ones.
"Looks like you came out of it alright Zoras, just try to not overexert your new implants yet."
"Heh, I wouldn't dream of it." With a wink, Zoras grabbed his boots, pants and coat and headed out to his trusty Centaur. "How are you my friend?" said he as he climbed into the cockpit.
The roar of the engines almost seemed to be "Glad to have you back, now lets kill something."
And they sped off into the universe, ready to bring the hive a little wake-up call.
OOC: I'm playing on the shared computer now, meaning I can't play as often. However, I'd say that's ok, because something is better than nothing... and I can actually set my graphics settings pretty high on this one... the universe never looked so good.
