Shooting an NPC trader should not effect standings like it does.
Now I agree if I shoot a protected player in nation space I should suffer badly (this must be hard on the poor UIT's who start out being able to accidently lose 900 standing for shooting a TPG bot...) but an NPC?
Now maybe I should lose some standing (maybe 100 standing) but you currenly lose 900 points, the same as an admired player.
Maybe i'm just on a rant due to what happened today. Basically I was killing Itani trade bots in Serco space to regain (small) amounts of faction, now while this is slighty less boring than botting, I didnt mind it too much and had a little fun, as your being chased by aerna seekers, strikeforces ect, and I got to around -690, so close I could smell the insides of Initros O-12, then I dont really know what happened - I had been in Serco space for around 30 mins without sight of 1 Itani trader bot, and then I saw one on the sector list, clicked his name, blew him up, looked to see what gains i was getting, I was -1000 Serco. I'm 99.9% sure I targetted an Itani trade bot, maybe I clicked a little low, or maybe the mouse was already over his name (which means sometimes when you click it clicks on whoever is dead centre of the list, not the top - im sure its a known bug, I have mentioned it before myself), but when I pressed U again, the Itani trade bot had disapeared, and the only remaining bots were Serco, ah well, i'll waste a few hours on it again.

I don't know about you, but as far as I'm concerned, named NPC Traders are *people*, at least in every way other than the possession of a pulse and an attention level... As such, they should be just as protected as any other +aligned player in nation space. Any NPC that does *not* have an RP name, however, (seekers, collectors, convoy transports, etc) is a mere machine, with no intrinsic rights at all, other than respect for the cargo they are carrying...
Maybe im just wondering wtf happened today.., yes I logged off pretty much due to this.
Last night I blasted away an NPC trader (well, he was in my way, there was no sense of me loosing battery power to go around him right?).
I did not receive any warnings about the NPC being protected or anything like this, but I took a 100 points hit when he went down (it's not my fault his hull couldn't withstand two Neut3s and a Mega Positron salvo).
100 points isn't so disastrous but I still would have liked some kind of warning.

Recent reports from our Station guards and friendly traders show that Prometheus pilots, irrespective of nationality, tend to destroy any obstacles in their way instead of going around them. Medical research is being conducted by our teams to ascertain the causes of this psychotic behavior. We seem to have found traces of similar deviance in very old reports of ancien earth regarding 4xwheel terrestrial vehicles in urban environment. Any person who has access to any pre-2310 medical information or database is invited to contact our Group as a matter of urgency.

I'd much rather waste some power going around than waste it shooting a bot, specially if the end result is a faction hit.
jex, what if you had spent 6 hours rebuilding standing so you could dock (ok, it was my descision to lose it, why I would be prepared to pay 500k to have it fixed or bot/duckhunt for ages to fix it), only to have your efforts reset by accidently killing the wrong bot?
Actually the me pay 500k thing for a -600 (docking rights) isnt a bad idea, it gives us something else to spend all the current money in vendetta on. To add more RP and challenge maybe make it so only Capitol Stations take the bribe (marshalls) alas thats a suggestion though.
This entire thread could be locked/moved somewhere else though, I was just pee'd that I had spent 6 hours fixing standing to lose it all from one mistake/bug (im still not sure what happened, and am still sure it was an Itani bot I killed or clicked on)

hehe, I had large faction hit with Ineubis yesterday, upon killing station guard.
The interesting thing is that Corvus doesn't care, while every other faction does.
Lately I've been fooling around and having 'War with CORVUS!' (basically poking a station guard, getting the strike force to launch, and see how many I can kill with blah).
Yesterday alone I killed 60+ Corvus station guards, without any faction hit... in fact, my faction standing increased from selling the scrap of the exploded guards to Corvus.
Mildly amused, I went to Ineubis... *drops from Respected to Hated, -1200 drop*

Being able to bribe for docking privileges would be a godsend. Currently, it's impossible for me to escort the Itani CTC convoy in its starting sector because I'm -611 for that faction. It's impossible for me to get docking privileges without killing 11 players KOS with that faction in their space without getting murdalized by the defbots. So, essentially, it's impossible for me to get docking rights. Grr.
-611 pffff, thats only 20 bots!!1!!one
go botting in Deneb...
[Edit]
I reread your post, you mean Inubis (I know i spelled it right, the devs didnt)
[Edit 2]
And I am thinking maybe more *temp* docking rights, so you can dock, take a mission, gain standing from the said mission. but if you dock, repair, and leave, your KOS again, same if the mission does not meet the full standing requirements for docking, ie, im -1000, I bribe a guard/marshall dock. take a mission (maybe just the current trade guild for now to keep it simple, maybe later a dedicated mission to gain say 50 standing, thats only available while KOS, like go kill so many of this... ect) im now -950, they let me dock while on the mission, cos im working for them, and am allowed to take another mission to fix it more, ect, maybe my numbers need redoing, but basically if you dont take a mission they try shoot you when you exit the station/try redock until you bribe them again. (until you work to -600 of course)
I think this would be a good idea.
[Edit 3]
Nobody cares about Corvus, not even Corvus, if you think getting admired there will stop you getting shot, think again.

MarkMcDoogle said he had a faction hit for shooting me in Corvus. he probably misunderstood then.
You can lose -1 point for violating the no fire zone(and getting the kill inside the no fire zone).
toda does that mean you gain 1 point for breaking the NFZ? (lose -1 = double negation right)
No rene, It means you lose one point.
And thats until Corvus is your only remaining dockable faction.
