More stupid defbot tricks...

[Edited to include my screen grabs]

Grabbed some shots of Defbots in Ukari L-2 doing their best to blow up a mine. I'll post them up when I get back from class.

*Nerde's Notes: From what I could tell, the bots could not actually *hit* the mines. Must be too small for their targetting computers. I could shoot them, though they do not explode when hit. Not sure whether they were Concussion or Proximity mines.

Here's the shots

Was it in the home nation of whoever laid the mines, and did the mine-layer have good standing? The best guess I've heard about this is that it's a result of good standing ships of the same nation not being able to damage each other.

Is this bugs? or suggestions? either way, if a Serco lays a mine that does not damage anything (the second it does the player is considered in violation of NFZ then the defbots can destroy the player) at a Serco station (for example, same for UIT at a UIT station, ect, ect...) the defence bots cannot shoot the mine, as *friendly fire* is enabled on the mine *why devs? why? its not alpha,* which basically means a fellow Serco stumbling onto the mine will not get /sploded (ooooh, now I see why, hehe) but it also means the defence forces (at least until the mine causes damage to something) cannot dispose of it.

A while ago a player was playing with this, laying mines all around a station, and the defbots were not able to destroy them. I came in, nudged too close & set off a number of the mines, which did violate the NFZ, but the strike force didn't go after the player, they went after the mines, and they & the guardbots were still unable to destroy the mines. Easy way to collect a lot of scrap. ;-)

In that case, it was a UIT player laying mines at a UIT station.

Ah yes.
This take me back to the good old days of friendly de-mining...

From what I could tell, the mines were protected by friendly fire, since they were dropped by a UIT in good standing at a UIT station. That's why I couldn't blow them up. I find it funnier that the bots were not hitting the mines at all. My shots would impact the mine, while the bots' neutron bolts either missed or went right through the mine (Evident in some of my screenshots, especially #6)

I didn't really intend this as a bug post (Unless it turns out that something is in fact wrong). I just thought that the bots' combination of bad aim and unwavering devotion to their jobs was a bit comical.

ananzi messed with this bug. If proxies were placed and the seekers were sucessful in blowing themselves up on the mines, then seekers would continually generate and smash into the mines, generating tons of scrap metal. It was actually fun, because seeker rockets flew everywhere and they constantly exploded.
